"Q:What, if anything, does this summer's heat wave tell us about weather patterns and climate change?

A: The hot conditions that much of Mississippi has been experiencing cannot be linked to climate change. Unfortunately, a large area of high pressure has been in control of our weather pattern. High pressure suppresses clouds and, therefore, rainfall, allowing for plenty of sunshine and, therefore, higher temperatures.

The climate is very cyclical and we simply can't link a short period of warmer conditions to climate change. Unfortunately, global warming, global cooling, climate change and such are shifting from being scientific investigations and are instead an indictment of political affiliation. "
