What WeatherWatch called "explosive showers" deluged Auckland this afternoon and a southerly front racing up the South Island's east coast hit Wellington at 3pm, spoiling a sunny, warm calm day in a sudden weather-pattern change as the temperature dived from a high of 14degC to a chilly six.
