"Wild weather packing big winds, heavy rain, some snow and plunging temperatures, bounced across parts of New Zealand today. What WeatherWatch called "explosive showers" deluged Auckland this afternoon and a southerly front racing up the South Island's east coast hit Wellington at 3pm, spoiling a sunny, warm calm day in a sudden weather-pattern change as the temperature dived from a high of 14degC to a chilly six. Auckland's bout of stormy weather was accompanied by strong, squally winds and WeatherWatch warned torrential downpours would continue into the evening with the possibility of flash and surface flooding. ...Meanwhile, winds of up to 120kmh howled over parts of Wairarapa and Hawke's Bay this morning before easing, and strong winds continued to affect the south of the South Island.
