Ready for Worst, New York Gets First Major Snowfall

"By 1 p.m., 4.3 inches of snow had fallen in Central Park, said David Stark of the National Weather Service. The highest total on Long Island was at Orient, N.Y., where 6.3 inches were measured at 12:30 p.m., Mr. Stark said, while Hamden, Conn., saw 8.5 inches."
