Get ready for freezing Friday: Britain braced for weekend of severe disruption as flooding, heavy snowfall and blizzards wreak havoc

Daily Mail
"The current bout of icy weather gripping most of Britain is being blown in from the snowy wastes of Scandinavia and Russia, the Met Office said today. High pressure to the north and east is pushing cold air across the UK towards a lower pressure area in the Mediterranean, with little chance of a reversal. Robin Thwaytes, a forecaster with the agency, told MailOnline: 'The pattern is that the weather is very blocked at the moment. 'We have got high pressure to the north and east and low pressure down in the Mediterranean and that's creating an easterly flow that's bringing in the cold from Finland and north-west Russia.'
