the conclusion that modern ice sheet and glacier recession is not only
not unusual in the context of the last century, the surface mass balance
loss in recent decades may have yet to exceed the losses from the 1930s
period. When also considering that the ice sheet cooled and gained
mass between the 1960s and 1990s, it would be fair to say that there
has been no net mass loss for the Greenland Ice Sheet in the last 80
years, or since anthropogenic forcing is believed to have exerted an
“unprecedented” and potentially “catastrophic” influence on the climate."
