Climate Change: The Keywords (Part 2 of 3)
Climate Change Dispatch
"The second keyword for the long overdue reassessment of the climatic issues is knowledge, meaning a more comprehensive and better understanding of the climate dynamics.
However, as a prerequisite it is necessary to clear up a concept commonly misused and abused by the Anthropogenic Global Warming (AGW) defenders: the idea that “science is settled” and that the so-called “scientific consensus” on the subject would be objected to only by some handfuls of diehard “skeptics.”
For starters, there is no such a thing like “settled science,” neither in Climatology nor in any other branch of science. The body of scientific knowledge is an open-ended and permanently ongoing construction that is always open to new evidences, new hypotheses, debate, questioning and revision – that’s how real science advances.
Also, “consensus” is a concept alien to science, which is not a “democratic” activity whose advance is driven by the weight of the number of followers of a certain line of thinking or theory – but by a permanent process of convergence between new hypotheses and evidences collected in the physical world."

The Guardian sets out their case that the scientists have been exonerated but that damage may have been done to "the cause".
Booker reckons the climate change movement is dying on its feet, but says that politicians are carrying on regardless. Booker's ideas seems to be echoed by Investors.com who report the Scientific American poll results and conclude that it's curtains for the warmists."

The climate change scare is dying, but do our MPs notice?

"The collapse of the warmist position on climate change has not impinged on politicians in Britain or Brussels .....Nothing more poignantly reflects the collapse of the great global warming scare than the decision of the Chicago Carbon Exchange, the largest in the world, to stop trading in "carbon" – buying and selling the right of businesses to continue emitting CO2.
A few years back, when the climate scare was still at its height, and it seemed the world might agree the Copenhagen Treaty and the US Congress might pass a "cap and trade" bill, it was claimed that the Chicago Exchange would be at the centre of a global market worth $10 trillion a year, and that "carbon" would be among the most valuable commodities on earth, worth more per ton than most metals. Today, after the collapse of Copenhagen and the cap and trade bill, the carbon price, at five cents a ton, is as low as it can get without being worthless.
Here in Britain, as the first snows fall, heralding what may be our fourth cold winter in a row, it is time we addressed one of the most glaring political "disconnects" in our sadly misgoverned country. "

In my profession, errors of this sort would cause the whole dataset to be rejected. I am astonished that the much vaunted NOAA quality control procedures did not pick up such gross errors.
The error is compounded in the sense that it propagates via V2 into the GISS database, and other users of GHCN V2."

After 20 years, billions of dollars in scientific research and advertising campaigns, cooperation from the public schools, TV specials and concerts by a gaggle of entertainers, end-of-the-world movies, our ‘best’ politicians, heads of state, presidents, the United Nations, and complicity by most of the news media, it has been decided that the American public is not getting the message on global warming!?

All claimed the turbines could affect their radar facilities, with the MoD particularly concerned about the impact on RAF Spadeadam. There were also objections from three parish councils – Kirkwhelpington, Bavington and Birtley – which had multiple concerns about the scheme.Further objections came from the British Horse Society, which was concerned about the impact on a nearby bridleway.As well as the formal consultations, there were also 37 letters of objection from the general public.
The catalogue of criticism covered the effect on the landscape, the cumulative impact following the granting of other windfarm applications nearby, the effect on tourism, impact on the environment in terms of noise and health, shadow flicker, impact on wildlife, aviation issues, traffic and road safety, grid connection and the effect on TV and telecommunications."
