Climategate

"Carbon (Dioxide) trading is now the fastest growing commodities market on earth.....And here’s the great thing about it. Unlike traditional commodities markets, which will eventually involve delivery to someone in physical form, the carbon (dioxide) market is based on lack of delivery of an invisible substance to no-one. Since the market revolves around creating carbon (dioxide) credits, or finding carbon (dioxide) reduction projects whose benefits can then be sold to those with a surplus of emissions, it is entirely intangible." (Telegraph)

This blog has been tracking the 'Global Warming Scam' for over ten years now. There are a very large number of articles being published in blogs and more in the MSM who are waking up to the fact the public refuse to be conned any more and are objecting to the 'green madness' of governments and the artificially high price of energy. This blog will now be concentrating on the major stories as we move to the pragmatic view of 'not if, but when' and how the situation is managed back to reality. To quote Professor Lindzen, "a lot of people are going to look pretty silly"

New peer reviewed paper says “there appear to have been periods of ice free summers in the central Arctic Ocean” in the early Holocene, about 10-11,000 years ago

WUWT
"..Now, inconveniently, we have this new paper via ScienceDirect New insights on Arctic Quaternary climate variability from palaeo-records and numerical modelling which says that their studies show that the early Holocene might very well have had ice free summers. This is interesting, because as this generally well accepted graph shows, temperature was higher then. But there’s more. ...."

Disputing The Skeptical Environmentalist

WUWT
"By demonizing the gas of life, in league with Al Gore and Bill Gates, Lomborg commits several serious scientific errors. As independent scientists, with broad training in mathematics, physics, chemistry, geology and geography, we know CO2 is not a pollutant, and the notion of “carbon-free” or “zero-carbon” energy is inherently harmful and anti-scientific. ....Bjorn Lomborg, Al Gore and Bill Gates need to consider the likelihood that, driven by changes in solar activity and ocean circulation, Earth will cool significantly over coming decades. Damaging the global economy with ineffectual carbon dioxide controls, in a futile quest to “stop global warming,” looks stupid now.

Viewed later, with hindsight, it will be judged outrageously irresponsible."

Global air and sea temperatures starting to drop rapidly

More workers sacrificed to green god

Bishop Hill
"Chris Huhne's extrarodinary mishandling of the UK's energy policy continues apace. It appears that users of virgin wood are being priced out of the market for their raw materials because of subsidies to bioenergy companies who compete for supply.

Mike McKenna, director of Kronospan's Chirk factory, said the subsidies for electricity generators which use biomass encouraged them to take "the easy option" of burning freshly felled timber. He told BBC Radio Wales: "The easy option for them is cutting down trees and burning them for electricity generation. "That's because the subsidies are worth more than twice the value of the wood.

Quite, quite mad.

Kintyre wind farm company in financial crisis

BBC
"The future of a wind turbine manufacturer which received millions of pounds from the Scottish government to safeguard jobs is in doubt. The Danish company Skykon, which took over the Vestas wind turbine factory in Kintyre last year, has announced it is suspending payments to its creditors.A total of 120 people are employed at the site just outside Campbeltown. In a statement Skykon said the company was in a very "cash-strapped situation." The announcement will come as a blow to First Minister Alex Salmond who went to Kintyre last summer to announce the deal.

The Scottish government agreed £9.2m worth of financial backing for Skykon which was intended to safeguard 100 jobs at the factory and create 300 more. However so far only £2.4m has been paid out since the money was being delivered in instalments with each batch dependent on Skykon fulfilling a number of conditions."

Climate Fools Day in the UK Parliament a Success

The Hockey Schtick
"email received from analytical chemist Hans Schreuder reporting the Climate Fools Day meeting in the UK Parliament was a great success. Perhaps a US version will occur in the US House of Representatives following the Nov. 2nd midterm elections.

The Climate Fools Day in London meeting was superb. Will write a proper report on the event yet, when various video clips have been posted. Attached two pics from the event. The room was nearly fully booked. Lots of good contacts and a call for a monthly meeting at Parliament and for MPs to attend. Wind energy in particular was demolished as the greatest waste of time and money. The momentum is building now.

Kind regards,

Why are schools promoting this deceitful film?

Andrew Bolt, Herald Sun (Australia)
"The film is error-riddled and alarmist, and the work of a prize hypocrite and deceiver who dodges any attempt to hold him to account. Even an otherwise sympathetic British judge says the film contains so many errors that it should not be used in classrooms without a health warning.

But in Australia....

Academic ignorance?

Slattsnews,western Victoria, Australia
"Are our curriculum building academics so out of touch that they aren’t aware of a British court’s finding that the Al Gore propaganda flick contained at least 11 blatant falsehoods and recommended that: In order for the film to be shown, the Government must first amend their Guidance Notes to Teachers to make clear that 1.) The Film is a political work and promotes only one side of the argument. 2.) If teachers present the Film without making this plain they may be in breach of section 406 of the Education Act 1996 and guilty of political indoctrination. 3.) Eleven inaccuracies have to be specifically drawn to the attention of school children.
Or are they so arrogant that they refuse to acknowledge an ever-rising groundswell of public opinion that rejects alarmist positions? Judge for yourselves."

Happy Climate Fools' Day

Telegraph
"Today is Climate Fools’ Day. To celebrate, here is an essay courtesy of Simon Barnett to show how your money is being squandered by the Coalition on “Climate Change”.The 2008 Climate Change Act commits Britain to cutting its CO2 emissions by 80 percent by 2050 at a cost of £18.3 billion every year for the next four decades (according to the Department for Energy and Climate Change website). This is being funded by top slicing the cash from your energy bills. The figure does not include other costs, such as the losses incurred due to the economic damage and opportunity costs of these measures. And obviously the law only seeks only to address CO2 emissions from the UK.

Biodiversity: Manufacturing a Crisis

The Resilient Earth
"With the UN trying to promote diminishing biodiversity as the NEXT BIG CRISIS it is interesting to note the chaos among diversity researchers. It is hard to make definitive statements regarding loss of diversity when science can not even tell us how many different creatures there are on the planet. Nevertheless, the UN has launched the International Year of Biodiversity, warning that the ongoing loss of species around the world is affecting human well-being. Yet another UN generated “science based” crisis to keep the world's citizens in a frenzy—shades of the failed global warming crisis, which the UN is rather hoping we all will forget."

US Carbon trading – not worth a plug nickel

WUWT
"I wrote a few weeks ago that The only lower price than today’s closing price on a ton of carbon is ZERO. That’s true now more than ever. ..And it’s still crashing. Last week the Chicago Climate Exchange (CCX) announced that they were scrapping the existing carbon trading program, and focusing on a new one that deals with directly sold carbon offsets rather than open trading. ....A bag of charcoal BBQ briquettes is worth far more than a ton of carbon dioxide right now. Local Government Is Not About Being Green

Donna Laframboise, (Canada)
"Local government is supposed to be about water, sewer, garbage collection, public transit, police, and ambulance services. In our part of the world, approximately half of our property taxes are consumed by the education system – which is why we also elect someone to help ensure that those particular dollars are spent wisely.

But the people who’ve been governing Toronto in recent years (and many who’d like to do so starting tomorrow) seem less-than-focused on cost-effective, efficient public services. Rather, they think it’s the city’s job to obsess about the environment.

Never mind that Canadians already have, and already pay for, environment ministries at the provincial level (our provinces are the equivalent of US states). Never mind that we have, and already pay for, a massive Ministry of the Environment at the national level."

What Will the Climate Climb-Down Look Like?

WUWT

Here’s something else that you can bring to your banker: the climb-down will be sneaky. On the other hand, when the series of editorial re-positionings is visible to casual members of the public at all, it will be beyond awkward.

How do I know? Because the process has already begun."

Warmists plot secretly to kill off the Medieval Warming Period. Again

Telegraph
"Remember how one of the great ambitions of the Climategate “scientists” was to “contain” the “putative” Medieval Warming Period? Well – guess what – they’re STILL at it. Michael Mann, Phil Jones, Jonathan Overpeck, Eugene Wahl, Malcolm Hughes – just about anyone who’s anyone from the Climategate emails, in fact – have all been on a clandestine boondoggle to sunny Portugal, there to conspire how best to obliterate that embarrassing and inconvenient period of bounteous warmth between around 900 AD and 1280 AD known as the MWP. ..."

Spending review: The 'cuts' that mean public spending soars

Telegraph
"This includes, however, only a part of the £2.9 billion that will be spent, along with the Department for Energy and Climate Change (DECC), as part of an EU scheme “to help developing countries pursue low-carbon growth and adapt to climate change”, which is a hefty part of the 27 per cent rise in the DECC budget over the next four years. A good case could be made that almost all spending on overseas aid and climate change is money chucked down the drain. (My favourite politically correct DFID project was building a Ferris wheel for the female inhabitants of the Afghan town of Lashkar Gah.) "

Mike Mann’s “secret” meeting on the Medieval Warm Period

WUWT
"While not really “secret”, one might describe it that way because unlike the many things Dr. Mann has been doing lately, there wasn’t one peep of press coverage about it. He helped organize this conference, and as we know Dr. Mann doesn’t shy away from reporting to the press on anything that helps his stature. Surprisingly, the usual science writers didn’t mention it, and you’d think they would, given all the major players that converged in Portugal for this event".

Figures show massive slump in UK sales of new electric cars

"Campaigners say 90% drop in 2009 could be due to recession and premium prices – but government subsidy could reverse decline. ....Nearly half of the electric vehicles sold last year were the tiny G-Wiz car. The latest model has a top speed of 50mph and a range of 48 miles between charges.Rudi Schogger, managing director of Goingreen, which distributes the G-Wiz in the UK, said: "Some people might be waiting for the government grants to arrive before purchasing an EV." 'Biodiversity': the new Big Lie

Telegraph
"Suddenly it becomes clear why they kept Pachauri on at the IPCC. Because the IPCC simply doesn’t matter any more. Sure it will go on, churning out Assessment Report after Assessment Report, bringing pots of money to the usual gang of bent scientists prepared to act as lead authors. But the world’s mainstream media – especially all those environment correspondents who so lovingly transcribe the press releases of Greenpeace and the WWF as if they were holy writ – will have moved on, according to the dictates of the United Nations Environment Programme’s (UNEP) fashionable crise du jour.

“Never mind ‘Climate Change’,” they’ll say to themselves. “Our readers and viewers aren’t really so into that now all the winters seem to have got so very cold. Biodiversity, that’s the thing.”

Yes there’ll be pain. But from the fog of these promises I pray a new, fitter Britain emerges

Daily Mail
"The Energy Secretary, LibDem Chris Huhne, said this week that he has sufficiently compromised his party’s principles to withdraw opposition to new nuclear power stations. But he added, crucially, that they will receive no public subsidy. This is hypocrisy, when huge subsidies are lavished on the Coalition’s beloved windmills, and yesterday we were promised more of them. I shall believe this Government has a credible energy policy to keep our lights burning in 2020 only when it starts constructing nuclear power stations. To achieve this, some public money is essential."

Household bills to rise to fund energy revolution

Telegraph
"But there are fears that other proposals in the blueprint could lead to a rapid rise in the cost of household bills. It is believed energy bills are likely to increase by at least £300 a year per household to fund financial support for the wind industry and other renewable projects. There are also warnings that energy firms will be forced to pass further costs on to the customer to cover the construction of nuclear plants. Ministers pledged they would not subsidise new reactors. "

Osborne slashes 490,000 jobs, cuts welfare by £7bn and forces us all to work longer - but there's even MORE money for overseas aid and global warming

Daily Mail
"Despite a budget cut of 18 per cent at the Department of Energy and Climate Change, the coalition is using £1billion of taxpayer's money for an experimental 'green' coal fired power station with technology to capture and store carbon dioxide - reducing the UK's greenhouse gas emissions. Plans for three other demonstration plants have been shelved. There is £1billion for the new Green Investment Bank to stimulate the green economy, while £200million goes towards developing offshore wind technology and manufacturing, and upgrading ports to speed up the creation of thousands of new wind turbines at sea. There is also £860million for the Renewable Heat Incentive - a scheme designed to trigger a 10 fold rise in 'green heating' for homes and businesses over the next 10 years by encouraging solar panels and ground source heat pumps. The announcement of the cash for carbon capture and storage technology came just hours after energy giant E.ON announced it was pulling out of the competition for the funding - leaving just one shortlisted candidate, ScottishPower.

Green Subsidies: Price Shock For German Electricity Customers

GWPF
"Next year, German households are in for a big price shock: the renewable energies levy, which every household in Germany has to pay as part of their electricity bills, will increase by over 70 per cent to 3.5 cents per kilowatt hour. This was announced by the German network operator on Friday. For an average household this will mean additional costs of around 10 € a month, according to the Federal Environment Ministry.

An end to the price spiral, which is caused by the subsidies for green electricity, is not in sight. Holger Krawinkel, energy expert of the Federation of Consumer Organizations, expects a further rise of the so-called EEG surcharge in the medium term. “It will rise by more than 5 cents in coming years in any case", Krawinkel predicted in an interview with the news agency DAPD. The reason: The federal government has failed to cut subsidies for solar energy fast and strong enough. Moreover, the impending boom in offshore wind energy is not even included in the green energy levy."

Spain fried by solar power

Andrew Bolt,Herald Sun (Australia)
"Zapatero introduced the subsidies three years ago as part of an effort to cut his country’s dependence on fossil fuels. At the time, he promised that the investment in renewable energy would create manufacturing jobs and that Spain could sell its panels to nations seeking to reduce carbon emissions.

Yet by failing to control the program’s cost, Zapatero saddled Spain with at least 126 billion euros of obligations to renewable-energy investors. The spending didn’t achieve the government’s aim of creating green jobs, because Spanish investors imported most of their panels from overseas when domestic manufacturers couldn’t meet short-term demand.

Spain stands as a lesson to other aspiring green-energy nations, including China and the U.S., by showing how difficult it is to build an alternative energy industry even with billions of euros in subsidies, says Ramon de la Sota, a private investor in Spanish photovoltaic panels and a former General Electric Co. executive…

Power from the most-efficient photovoltaic plants costs utilities about $275 per megawatt-hour to produce compared with about $60 for a coal-fired plant, according to Bloomberg New Energy Finance. "

Climate Hype Pays For Globe-Trotting Bureaucrats

GWPF
"THE fight against global warming has globe-trotting bureaucrats attending more than one international climate conference every week. Department of Climate Change staff flew first class to 64 global climate change meetings in just 12 months at a cost of more than $4 million. A Senate committee heard that 93 staff went to destinations including Greenland, the Maldives, Japan, the US and Bolivia.

The trips cost taxpayers more than $2.74 million in airfares and $1.6 million for accommodation and meals. The Government's special envoy on climate change, Howard Bamsey, was the biggest spender, racking up $229,000 in travel costs during 2009-10.He was followed by climate change ambassador Louise Hand, who spent $192,000 on travel over the same period. The travel blitz emerged as the federal Government tries to forge a domestic consensus on climate change.A new climate change committee has been established to examine ways to put a price on carbon emissions. But the Opposition has refused to be represented and will oppose any emissions trading scheme or carbon tax."

Kyoto Fraud Revealed

GWPF
"The left leaning Guardian newspaper in Britain let the cat out of the bag yesterday, reporting that while the EU’s emission of CO2 declined by 17% between 1990 and 2010, this apparent progress was bogus. If you add up the CO2 released by the goods and services Europeans consumed, as opposed to the CO2 thrown off by the goods and services they produced, the EU was responsible for 40% more CO2 in 2010 than in 1990. The EU, as theGuardian puts it, has been outsourcing pollution — and jobs — rather than cutting back on greenhouse gasses."

So two things you can already assume: it won’t work half as well as advertised, but will cost around twice as much. And, indeed:

Findings by the Australian Energy Regulator have undermined the state government’s position on smart meters - which will be fitted to every Victorian home by the end of 2013…

She said: “To have a sceptic or contrarian in every interview is really misleading the public.”

Then, amusingly, she dropped two of the BBC’s more shameless eco-activists in the dudu by commenting:

“With Climate Science there’s been a real change with people like Richard Black and Roger Harrabin fighting internally to say ‘We don’t have to have a sceptic every time we have a climate scientist.’”

Renewables will add £880 a year to bills

Telegraph
Trying to meet our EU renewable energy target would cost more than we currently spend on our entire electricity production, says Christopher Booker.
"Is there any subject on which more nonsense is talked and written than the mindblowing proposals being bandied about by the Government for meeting our EU target of generating, within 10 years, 30 per cent of our electricity from renewable sources? (That is roughly six times the current total, meaning that we have by far the most challenging target of any country in Europe.)

For instance, the industry regulator, Ofgem, recently announced that by 2020 we will need to have spent £40 billion on connecting up our new renewable energy sources to the national grid – £4 billion a year. Alistair Buchanan, the head of Ofgem, blithely claimed, on the BBC Today programme and elsewhere, that this would only add £6 a year to the average electricity bill of Britain’s 25 million households. Yet ten seconds with a calculator shows that the cost per household of that £4 billion a year works out to £160. "

Robyn Williams shreds the tenets of science

Jo Nova (Australia)
"As I keep repeating, there’s only ONE thing that makes science different to religion, and that’s evidence. Robyn Williams is the most lauded commentator on science in Australian (read the rave here, he was the first and only journalist to be elected a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Science; a professor at two universities, and received 5 honorary doctorates) yet despite the accolades he mistakenly hails the opinions of paid PR hacks above evidence and reason, and hallows the Blacklist of Approved Climate Sorcerers, sorry, Scientists as if it holds the key to the question of climate sensitivity of a trace gas. (How many “scientists” do you need to warm a planet? Answer: Whatever $79 billion can buy.) ...."

"Bob Who?

Well indeed. If you were to judge only by the sycophantic treatment he received at the hands of interviewer Robyn Williams (someone so instantly irritating he makes the other, more famous irritating Robin Williams seem an unparalleled delight of charm and understatement, by comparison), you would imagine he were some sort of cross between Albert Einstein, Sir Isaac Newton, plus maybe a bit of Svante Arrhenius and Joseph Fourier for the specialist Climate Change bits.

Actually, though, Bob Ward is a PR man. He used to work for the Royal Society, from which Warmist redoubt he once famously had the chutzpah to write to Exxon ordering them to stop funding “climate change deniers”. Now he works for something called the Grantham Research Institute, a “research department” at the London School of Economics (LSE) funded by an American hedge-funder called Jeremy Grantham and headed by the economist and former treasury official Lord Stern. ...."

Global warming fraud: the tide begins to turn

Telegraph
"Funny business, blogging. Sometimes, you put up a post you personally think is genius and no one gives a damn. Other times, you put up a post you imagine is fairly routine – and suddenly the internet goes mental.

US physics professor: “Global warming is the greatest and most successful pseudoscientific fraud I have seen in my long life” definitely belonged in the latter category.

I claim no credit for it. All I did was print, verbatim, a resignation letter written by a distinguished US physics professor Hal Lewis to the American Physical Society. Possibly I helped give it legs by singling out the juiciest quote in the letter and putting it in the headline. That’s all. The true hero of the hour is Professor Lewis for having the courage to stick out his neck and say what so many thousands of other scientists around the world would dearly love to say too: that the global warming industry is a scam and sham."

As Brisbane Lord Mayor Campbell Newman yesterday warned of a possible repeat of the floods that devastated Brisbane in 1974, it emerged that the cost of construction of the now-redundant drought-proofing amounted to $3700 for each household in the nation’s fastest-growing region.

The Gold Coast desalination plant and Brisbane’s recycled water scheme together ran up a $57m loss in the year to June 30—losses to the taxpayer of more than $1m a week.

Because of this, you and other climate scientists like Jim Hansen have become political activists, fighting like crazy to make sure the right people are elected to keep the money spigots turned wide open … just like Eisenhower warned.

So please, spare us the vapors about scientists having a stake in politics. You are in it up to your ears."

The scientific world is fracturing

Jo Nova (Australia)
"The rift between real science (the pursuit of truth) and PR-science (the pursuit of of money and power) is growing. Associations like The Royal Society, the APS, and the American Chemical Society are beginning to fracture internally as eminent members reject the unscientific pronouncements made on their behalf by small “secret and stacked” committees.

Hal Lewis comes from the elite upper levels of science — a physics professor at University of California (Santa Barbara), and a member of the Defense Science Board (a group of the top 40 or so, advising the Pentagon).

He’s resigned from the American Physical Society (APS) today, after 67 years. The APS is the world’s second largest organization of physicists, with 48,000 members. He is scathing of the fall from grace of the once renowned institution."

Hal Lewis: My Resignation From The American Physical Society – an important moment in science history

WUWT
"We’ve previously covered the APS here, when I wrote While Copenhagen and its excesses rage, a quiet revolution is starting.Indeed, not so quiet now. It looks like it is getting ugly inside with the public airing of the resignation of a very prominent member who writes:

I don’t believe that any real physicist, nay scientist, can read that stuff without revulsion. I would almost make that revulsion a definition of the word scientist.…
In the interim the ClimateGate scandal broke into the news, and the machinations of the principal alarmists were revealed to the world. It was a fraud on a scale I have never seen, and I lack the words to describe its enormity. Effect on the APS position: none. None at all. This is not science; other forces are at work.

Ed Miliband is the costliest politician in British history

When Ed Miliband won the Labour leadership, the commentators overlooked his most startling achievement, says Christopher Booker(Telegraph)
"Signally missing from all the attempts to find any substance in the strangely two-dimensional figure who is now leader of the Labour Party has been any reference to Ed Miliband's most spectacular achievement – the fact that he is potentially the most expensive politician in Britain's history,

The only real contribution David Miliband's little brother has so far made to our lives in his meteoric political career was to put through the 2008 Climate Change Act. This commits Britain, uniquely in the world, to cutting its CO2 emissions by 80 per cent by 2050, at a cost estimated, on the website of his old Department for Energy and Climate Change, at up to £18.3 billion every year for the next four decades. In cash terms this amounts to £734 billion, making it far and away the most costly law ever put through Parliament. It will equate to more than £700 a year for every household in the land, as we pay for thousands more useless windmills and other quixotic gestures through fast-rising taxes, soaring electricity bills, draconian regulatory costs and heaven knows what else. Furthermore, neither Mr Miliband himself, nor any of his Act's supporters, could begin to explain how that 80 per cent target is to be attained without closing down virtually our entire economy."

As another freezing winter looms, council hands out 2,000 spades and tells residents: 'Dig yourselves out when it snows'

Daily Mail
"Council chiefs have sparked outrage after proposing residents dig themselves out of the snow as Britain braces itself for another winter of Arctic conditions. As long-range forecasts suggest the country will be hit by blizzards and temperatures plummeting to -20c, bosses at Camden Council prepared to hand out spades."

ED Are we being hyped into believing its going to be Arctic conditions, and if its not, we get the alarmists going on about 'global warming ?

Legal Defeat For Global Warming In Kiwigate Scandal

GWPF
"According to NZCSC, climate scientists cooked the books by using the same alleged ‘trick’ employed by British and American doomsaying scientists. This involves subtly imposing a warming bias during what is known as the ‘homogenisation’ process that occurs when climate data needs to be adjusted.

The specific charge brought against the Kiwi government was that it’s climate scientists had taken the raw temperature records of the country and then adjusted them artificially with the result that a steeper warming trend was created than would otherwise exist by examination of the raw data alone.

Indeed, the original Kiwi records shows no warming during the 20th century, but after government sponsored climatologists had manipulated the data a warming trend of 1C appeared...."

Victory for Kiwi sceptics

Bishop Hill
"In the climate controversy dubbed Kiwigate New Zealand skeptics inflict shock courtroom defeat on climatologists implicated in temperature data fraud....As the story makes clear, there are interesting parallels to Climategate, with government scientists resisting requests for data and then claiming the data was lost. With the raw data apparently showing no warming trend, something that only appears once these scientists have homogenised and adjusted the figures, it does look suspiciously as if books may have been cooked."

Blame green madness for these bills

Andrew Bolt, Herald Sun (Australia)
"The consequences of mad green policies are now being felt - and even social welfare groups are now complaining:

THE triple whammy of soaring electricity, gas and water costs follows years of financial pain already biting into budgets across the state. A Herald Sun investigation has found typical households are paying a staggering $900 more for the essentials compared with 2005…

And industry experts warn it will only get worse. Ben Freund, of price comparison service GoSwitch, said that electricity costs were set to explode over the next five years as governments forced companies to commit to more expensive forms of green energy such as solar and wind power, and homes overflowed with power-hungry appliances… "

Stacking up for cold

Dr Richard North
"An early winter storm has swamped Reno with record-setting rain and dropped enough snow at the top of the Sierra Nevada to close a mountain highway pass near Lake Tahoe. A winter weather advisory is in effect for Reno, Tahoe and Carson City. The storm, says AP, follows record heat in northern Nevada.

The other side of the world, following a reasonably benign winter, the Southland region of New Zealand (NZ) has in the past week been hit by "the worst spring storm in living memory" according to the NZ Herald. ..."

The solar con: seeming green, being greedy

Andrew Bolt,Herald Sun (Australia)
"Green power is not just ludicrously expensive, but too often a transfer of wealth from the poor to the salvation-seeking rich:

SCHEMES that pay households to produce power using rooftop solar panels are costing about 25 times as much to cut greenhouse gases as a nationwide ETS…

In a confidential submission obtained by The Australian, the National Generators Forum has told the NSW government that its scheme is costing between $520 and $640 to reduce each tonne of carbon dioxide - compared with the $23 per tonne proposed in the emissions trading scheme shelved by Kevin Rudd.

The submission states that although the scheme will create green jobs, each job created will cost between $130,000 and $700,000....

The Australian Council of Social Service’s senior policy officer of energy and climate change, Tony Westmore, feared “a serious increase” in power bills and said ”those people who have the cash to be able to put the panels on their roof will be subsidised by people who can’t afford their current bills”.

Campaigning explodes as climate process risks disintegration

BBC
"What is certain, though, is that almost a year after the Copenhagen summit, there is tangible fear among some long-time observers that the UN process is close to becoming moribund.

As one such observer recently said privately:

"We are now on the edge of seeing the entire international climate regime system disintegrate and fail more or less irreversibly."

Get ready for new big chill as forecasters predict back-to-back 'white-out' winters

Daily Mail
* Depressing long-term outlook as Britain is hit by torrential rain

Britain is set for another winter of Arctic conditions with blizzards and temperatures as low as -20C, forecasters have warned. The prediction could mean back-to-back 'white-out' winters after last year's proved to be the coldest for 31 years. The worrying forecast came as bad weather struck the British Isles at the weekend, with flash flooding in parts of London and the South-East."

Enviro Groups Retreat From Violent Advocacy Video

NYT
"U.S. environmental groups -- including those that had counted 10:10 among their partners -- are recoiling. Among them is 350.org, the group founded by environmentalist Bill McKibben, which released a statement saying it had nothing to do with the video and denouncing it as "the complete opposite of everything we and this movement stand for."

Splattergate: the fear machine

Dr Richard North

The 'anomalies’ of Dr Rajendra Pachauri’s charity accounts

Why did the Charities Commission let the European wing of Rajendra Pachauri's empire get away with such poor accounting, asks Christopher Booker. (Telegraph)
"Next weekend, as delegates from 194 countries gather in South Korea for a crucial meeting of the UN’s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, their big talking point will be whether the IPCC’s chairman Dr Rajendra Pachauri should resign – as a recent report from the world’s leading scientific academies seemed strongly to hint he should. The delegates face a dilemma. If they sack him, it would be a serious blow to the reputation of the panel, which has been central to the global warming scare since its founding in 1988. If he stays, it could severely damage the authority of its next major report, due in four years’ time. ..."

Mother Nature keeps us guessing around globe

NZ Herald (New Zealand)
"September was the month Mother Nature woke up after what was a long sleep. After a quiet summer, autumn and winter, spring has started off in spectacular fashion - from the 7.1 magnitude quake in Christchurch on September 4, to the 300 aftershocks that followed, to the Southern Ocean storm that cut power to 80,000 nationwide, spawned tornadoes in the north and killed half a million lambs in Southland. ....Of the country's six main centres, Tauranga took the dubious honour of being the wettest - its recording of 528mm over the season was 144 per cent above normal. .....Meanwhile, John Holdren, director of the White House Office of Science and Technology policy, said the term global warming was a dangerous misnomer, which should be replaced by global climate disruption. Why do I get the feeling this will also lead to further debate? Heated debate, of course.

Blow Me Up, Blow Me Down

WUWT
"Well, with the calming passage of 24 hours, let’s take another look at the 10:10 video showing the splatterfest of gore as skeptics play the more volatile roles from the worst portions of the movie ‘Scanners.’

It’s still disgusting.

I spent four years in the Navy and have seen a lot. The film did not upset me physically or emotionally. My reaction was mental (Cue Michael Tobis: “See? Fuller’s going mental…”)What disgusts me first is its target. The video is meant for the young. Young people get blown up by a calm and engaged teacher in the first scene, and music and sports and film figures appealing to the young are both victims and perpetrators throughout. Our reaction is irrelevant. They are not talking to us. They are talking to our children."

I'm exploding about climate change, actually

Telegraph
"...Well, I'm not cutting mine. I don't emit much, anyway. We wear a lot of jumpers and we're constantly harvesting nature's bounty down my way – loads of teensy hazelnuts two steps from the village hall. Ten-year-old Beetle, OK? What does Richard Curtis drive? I hope the Government is not paying for this horrible website, because whenever "government" pays, it means I pay, and I object. Explosively. "

Blood & Gore Against Global Warming

Donna Laframboise (Canada)
"Freedom of speech. Intellectual freedom. The right to hold opinions that contrast with the majority view. I started paying close attention to the climate debate after I noticed that many green activists seemed not to value those things.

This advertisement is real. It was created by an environmental organization based in the UK. It contains four scenarios in which people – including school children – who express ambivalence toward reducing their personal carbon footprint are blown to pieces.

It’s difficult to exaggerate this. In this video, people are murdered for expressing a different opinion. As a bonus, those in the vicinity get splattered with blood and gore.

Nice, huh? "

The Royal Society: Still Embarrassing Science

WUWT
"Although it is encouraging that the Royal Society now acknowledges that climate science may not be as settled as it previously implied, the Society’s new report still stands as an embarrassment to science because it fails to offer justifications based on science (and policy analysis) for a number of its (politically correct) statements."

The most despicable ad yet from the global warmists?

Andrew Bolt, Herald Post (Australia)
"At the moment it’s just a “joke”, of course - 10:10‘s latest ad to persuade people to cut their emissions by 10 per cent by 2010. "

ED: This advert is so sick and offensive, but indicative of the thinking of warmists to protect their
position.
