"Carbon (Dioxide) trading is now the fastest growing commodities market on earth.....And here’s the great thing about it. Unlike traditional commodities markets, which will eventually involve delivery to someone in physical form, the carbon (dioxide) market is based on lack of delivery of an invisible substance to no-one. Since the market revolves around creating carbon (dioxide) credits, or finding carbon (dioxide) reduction projects whose benefits can then be sold to those with a surplus of emissions, it is entirely intangible." This blog has been tracking the 'Global Warming Scam' for over ten years now. There are a very large number of articles being published in blogs and more in the MSM who are waking up to the fact the public refuse to be conned any more and are objecting to the 'green madness' of governments and the artificially high price of energy. This blog will now be concentrating on the major stories as we move to the pragmatic view of 'not if, but when' and how the situation is managed back to reality. To quote Professor Lindzen, "a lot of people are going to look pretty silly"

The wettest and now the COLDEST! Britons left shivering as temperatures plunge to -2C ... as we braved the chilliest summer's night for 40 YEARS
"On same day Met Office reveal it’s been the wettest summer ever, temperatures plunged to almost record summer lows overnight
Braemar is Scotland was the coldest spot as it dropped to -2.1C There has only been one August night colder, August 21 1973, when Lagganlia in the Highlands suffered -4.5C
Some areas did have a record low, Bradford for example was 2.8C last night, its lowest August temperature since 1908
It tops off a miserable summer, which has been the wettest in a century, causing flash floods only yesterday."

"The UK's energy policy still looks as though it is being run by dyed-in-the-wool greens but elsewhere there is growing evidence that normal economic behaviour is starting to reassert itself. For example, solar panel manufacturers in China are on the verge of extinction."
"The government is trying to water down the carbon tax, its most costly error. Following the astonishing decision to join the EU’s carbon abatement scheme, I had a piece in the AFR on Wednesday. Henry E also had an excellent piece in the Australian. Here is the text of mine."
"Hansen is busy lying today about how extreme weather has gotten worse due to global warming. In 1974, the CIA said the exact opposite. “The world’s snow and ice cover had increased by at least 10 to 15%” “The six west African countries .. became the first victims of climate change” Within a single year, adversity had visited nearly every nation on the globe”
Spiegel 1974: “Temperatures Over Last 20 Years Have Dropped Faster Than At Anytime In The Last 1000 Years”
"Looking back at the Spiegel archives, here’s another report warning of global cooling and that man was the cause: The desert is growing. ......Climate changed naturally throughout history. But since about 1900, it’s all man’s fault. We live in an age of technical charlatans."
"Earlier this month Guido showed how he who pays the IPPR calls the tune, and now it seems the Labour wonk-shop have been at it once again. Today they have published a report making the case for wind power. Apparently wind is an effective way of reducing carbon emissions and can provide a secure and reliable source of energy for the future. Who would argue such a thing? Dig a little deeper and you will see that two of the three authors of the report are senior employees of GL Garrad Hassan: ......So we have the IPPR letting a wind energy company write a report on wind power, only for them to inexplicably find that wind is the way forward. Fancy that…"

"For a long time it was assumed that the heat wave of 2003 was unique for the last 1000 years, and that there had never been such a heat wave in Europe during that time. It turns out that this was an error. At the end of July, 2012, Oliver Wetter and Christian Pfister of the University of Bern in Switzerland published a new study in the Journal Climate of the Past Discussion. The study shows that temperatures during a Swiss heat-wave summer in the year 1540 was significantly hotter than the summer of 2003. The two scientists write a short summary of their work:"
New paper finds deep Arctic Ocean from 50,000 to 11,000 years ago was 1–2°C warmer than modern temperatures
"A new paper published in Nature Geoscience finds "From about 50,000 to 11,000 years ago, the central Arctic Basin from 1,000 to 2,500 meters deep was ... 1–2°C warmer than modern Arctic Intermediate Water." This finding is particularly surprising because it occurred during the last major ice age."

Michael Mann says lawsuit against National Review is on! Climate Depot responds to Mann and his lawyer's claims about the Hockey Stick & Climategate
"Climate Depot Response: Mann's research has been subjected to nearly a decade of intense scrutiny by his colleagues, climate researchers and institutions. See: 2010: Head of UK Royal Statistical Society Prof. David Hand: Michael Mann's 'Hockey stick' graph was exaggerated -- 'The 'hockey stick' that became emblematic of the threat posed by climate change exaggerated the rise in temperature because it was created using 'inappropriate' methods...would have shown less dramatic results if more reliable techniques had been used to analyze the data'

"So how much more Arctic sea ice has melted (been dispersed) this year? Let’s say the Arctic sea ice retreats to 3.5 million km2 by mid September. That would mean 800,000 sq. km less than 2007. That sounds frightening. But how much ice is that? Answer: 800,000 km2 x 0.002 km thick = 1600 cubic km. Holy moly!"

" An extraordinary picture of the state of our public life has come to light in recent days, in accounts of the involvement of some of our most senior politicians in the vast, lucrative and expanding industry of “renewable energy”. At the centre of the picture is David Cameron, who last month nominated Lord Deben (formerly John Gummer) as the new chairman of the influential and supposedly “independent” Committee on Climate Change, set up to advise government on energy policy under the Climate Change Act. This is despite the fact that Lord Deben’s array of environmental business interests includes chairmanship of Forewind Ltd, a consortium of four energy firms planning the world’s largest, and most heavily subsidised, offshore wind farm in the North Sea."

"....Follow the money, find the lies. It was never about sea level, or climate refugees, or disappearing islands…it is all about wealth transfer. Whine loud enough to the U.N. that those other big meanie countries are making the sea rise, and they’ll toss money your way. Say it too much, and the investors stay away.
Liars, liars, liars all."
"It's fascinating to take a detailed look at what Time mag told us about global cooling in 1974: It's been happening for three decades; it shows no signs of reversing; it's causing bizarre and unpredictable weather, including drought in Africa; it may be caused by fuel burning, it could be catastrophic for food supplies, etc"

"There’s a great article today at SPPI today Michael Mann — the ghost of climate past which summarizes the whole hockey stick affair quite well. It draws heavily on a post from May of this year on PJ Media by Rand Simberg titled The Death of the Hockey Stick?"

"In respect of the Scottish Government's target based renewable energy programme, a serious complaint has been filed to hold both the UK and the Scottish Government to account via the United Nations. It should be appreciated that both the EU and the UK are now being held to account by the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe in respect of their non-compliance with the Aarhus Convention."

"A paper published today in the Journal of Applied Meteorology and Climatology finds, contrary to global warming theory, that "little change has occurred in dewpoint and specific humidity" in the U.S. over the 80 year period from 1930 to 2010. The paper also finds "trends in relative humidity show little change for the period 1947 – 2010." Thus, the paper contradicts the theory of a runaway greenhouse effect allegedly due to positive feedback from increased atmospheric water vapor and specific humidity.

Sorry we didn't mention the storms, says the BBC: Weatherman apologises on air after predicting sun and ignoring official forecasts of rain
"If you thought the weather forecast was too good to be true, you were probably right. The BBC has been forced to apologise on air for ignoring official weather predictions and forecasting sun when rain was on the way. Forecasters stuck to their own assessment of the weather and disregarded stormy warnings from the Met Office – and as a result, many viewers were caught unawares when the heavens opened in parts of the country yesterday."

"There is another mystery. How did a US geologist working with Western Mining Corporation in South Australia, a co-author of esoteric papers - from the origin of LREE-enriched hematite breccias at the Olympic Dam Cu-U-Au-Ag deposit to the oxygen isotope composition of Chilean El Laco magnetite - transform herself into a credible climate change alarmist in less than a decade? How, indeed?"
" Last week, I mentioned the curious fact that Tim Yeo MP serves as chairman of the Commons Select Committee on Energy and Climate Change while earning more than £140,000 a year working for firms that make money out of “green” energy. In the days that followed, everyone seemed to be piling in on this, with calls for Mr Yeo to resign. Perhaps they should also turn their attention to the role of John Gummer, now Lord Deben (right), nominated by David Cameron to be the new chairman of the Committee on Climate Change, set up under the Climate Change Act to advise on climate and energy policy.
The committee is described as “independent”, but it is packed with global-warming zealots, such as Lord May, the former president of the Royal Society, who turned it into a campaigning body on the issue. Lord Deben himself is chairman of Forewind, an international consortium planning to build the world’s largest offshore wind farm in the North Sea, and also president of Globe International, a body which co-ordinates responses to global warming by politicians across the world. (His predecessors in the post include Elliot Morley, before he was imprisoned for fiddling parliamentary expenses, and Stephen Byers, the former minister who was seen in a television documentary claiming that, as a lobbyist, he was now “a cab for hire”.)
Lord Deben still has to be confirmed as a suitable chairman for the Committee on Climate Change. But since the final say on this rests with Mr Yeo’s committee, one suspects that a possible conflict of interests will not prove an obstacle."

""The entire rationale of policy in US and Europe has been to ignore what's happening in China and India and hope that petty acts of virtuous behaviour in both countries will cure the problem," he said. "Even if you install windmills you're not going to change the trend of overall CO2 emissions."
German National Weather Service: “No Significant Trend To More Drought In Europe…Dryness La Niña -Related”
"The DWD posted 2 days ago an unusually level-headed, sober expert report on what’s behind the dry period that Europe has been experiencing over the last 2 year and half. Their findings are a real cold water deluge on all the alarmist claims we’ve been hearing in the media over the last weeks. The DWD’s conclusion: “There’s no long-term significant trend. The suspect is a two-year La Niña impact in connection with a positive North Atlantic Oscillation”.

"The United Nations (UN) food agency has called on the United States to suspend its production of biofuel ethanol. Under US law, 40% of the corn harvest must be used to make biofuel, a quota which the UN says could contribute to a food crisis around the world. A drought and heatwave across the US has destroyed much of the country's corn crop, driving up prices. The US argues that producing much of its own fuel, rather than importing it, is good for the country. --BBC News, 10 August 2012"

"As usual, the Global Warmers have used their religious zeal to attach causality for a natural disaster to “Global Warming”. The two are quite unconnected and even less connected to anything done by humans. How can we know this? Because of all the history of prior, much larger, droughts."
"A paper published today in the International Journal of Climatology finds "that the atmospheric pressure in the early [Arctic] instrumental period [from 1801 to 1920] was not significantly different to that of the present day." Climate models, however, predict a 'human fingerprint' of decreased Arctic atmospheric pressures due to alleged warming from increased greenhouse gases. Once again, the climate models fly in the face of real-world contradictory observations."

"At one point last week, Britain’s 3,500 turbines were contributing 12 megawatts (MW) to the 38,000MW of electricity we were using. (The Neta website, which carries official electricity statistics, registered this as “0.0 per cent”).
It is 10 years since I first pointed out here how crazy it is to centre our energy policy on wind. It was pure wishful thinking then and is even more obviously so now, when the Government in its latest energy statement talks of providing, on average, 12,300MW of power from “renewables” by 2020.
Everything about this is delusional. There is no way we could hope to build more than a fraction of the 30,000 turbines required. As the windless days last week showed, we would have to build dozens of gas-fired power stations just to provide back-up for all the times when the wind is not blowing at the right speed. But, as more and more informed observers have been pointing out, the ministers and officials of the Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC) seem to live in a bubble of unreality, without any practical grasp of how electricity is made, impervious to rational argument and driven by an obsession that can only end in our computer-dependent economy grinding to a halt." -------------------------------------

"Not surprisingly, we see from observations today that the assumed CO2 impacts have indeed been massively overblown. Now the scientists are left to fudge and falsify past climate data to force it to fit their crumbling models."

"This paper (found here) has been quoted in hundreds, if not thousands, of media outlets and newspapers and has garnered the praise of many environmental advocacy groups. The problem? Their conclusions are demonstrably false and their characterization of the science and statistics are deceptive at best."

Dear NOAA and Seth, which 1930′s were you comparing to when you say July 2012 is the record warmest?
"The press release is out, and the usual serial bloviators are rushing to trumpet the news. July 2012 was the hottest ever on record! “Yikes! We’re gonna roast! Global Warming!” they wail on twitter and blogs. ......Of course the first thing I do when I see these sorts of things is go look at the data. It tells a far more interesting and credible story. Here’s some graphs NCDC and Seth won’t ever put in a press release or AP story: ..."
"As far as daily HIGH temperatures go, 1936 was the clear winner. But because daily LOW temperatures have risen so much, the daily AVERAGE July temperature in 2012 barely edged out 1936. Now, of course, we have that nagging issue of just how much urban heat island (UHI) effect remains in the data. The NCDC “homogenization” procedures are not really meant to handle long-term UHI warming, which has probably occurred at most of the 1218 stations used in the above plot."

"A 'Scientific' American article, Greenland Meltdown Driven by Collapse of Glaciers at Ocean Outlets, begins with the scary proclamation, “the ice sheet as a whole has lost some 36 billion metric tons of ice each year in recent years.” However, the New Zealand Climate Conversation Group calculates this amounts to an annual loss of only 0.00148% of the Greenland ice cap and would require only 67,222 years to meltdown at that rate [if an ice age doesn't occur beforehand]."
"Britain's 'obsession' with wind farms will push up family electricity bills by more than £300 a year, a report claimed today. The Government's green energy plans for the next eight years are a £124billion 'blunder' that will hit every UK household, a senior British economist has also said. In a stark warning Professor Gordon Hughes, who has produced a study on how wind energy will hit energy costs, said that British consumers simply cannot afford to subsidise wind power."

"My question is: Why have the professional “climatologists” not done the simple work that I did on a lazy Saturday afternoon with my laptop? They must know that water vapor nearly wipes out CO2 in warming the Earth, and that clouds and albedo do the rest. What’s their excuse for this massive “oversight”?

"GOP lawmakers say this year's harsh weather that has produced devastating wildfires and the most widespread drought in 50 years has not changed their minds on climate change. Republican lawmakers say this year's harsh weather that has produced devastating wildfires and the most widespread drought in 50 years has not changed their minds on climate change. .....Other GOP members questioned why environmentalists and others raise concerns about the planet warming during hot spells, but the opposite doesn’t occur during bouts of severe winter weather."
Hansen Uses 30 Year Cherry Picked Time Period To Prove That Climate Is The Most Extreme In 10,000 Years
"You can’t make this stuff up. He claims that the weather is the most extreme in 10,000 years based on a baseline of “the last few decades“ What a brazen liar this man is. He wrote the exact opposite ten years ago." (h/t Climate Depot)
"The Warmists are getting desperate. Their attempt to make much of the Muller non-story backfired horribly. Their yarn about melting Greenland turned out to be ludicrously overdone. Then, of course, there was Watts et al's paper showing that the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration – the US government department responsible for keeping tabs on America's temperature data – has been fiddling the data so as to exaggerate late 20th-century warming by 100 per cent. So what ingenious ruse have the Warmists alighted upon to disguise the awkward fact that they are losing every important scientific argument going? Simple: they've now decided that whenever the weather does anything extreme anywhere in the world, it's another sign of Climate Change."

"The proved gas reserves in the US are 50% higher in 2010 than 30 years ago during which time the country consumed more than double the amount of the 1980 proved gas reserve number. That's the complete opposite of every energy prediction ever made. How could that be?"

"Will America’s shale gas revolution ever spread to Europe? According to Chevron, it already has. The company has been quietly buying up huge swaths of land across eastern Europe, an area it believes could be the next great frontier for shale gas exploration. It is convinced that the economic arguments for shale will ultimately trump the environmental concerns."

"What Field says the IPCC says is blantantly wrong, often 180 degrees wrong. It is one thing to disagree about scientific questions, but it is altogether different to fundamentally misrepresent an IPCC report to the US Congress. Below are five instances in which Field’s testimony today completely and unambiguously misrepresented IPCC findings to the Senate."
