"Carbon (Dioxide) trading is now the fastest growing commodities market on earth.....And here’s the great thing about it. Unlike traditional commodities markets, which will eventually involve delivery to someone in physical form, the carbon (dioxide) market is based on lack of delivery of an invisible substance to no-one. Since the market revolves around creating carbon (dioxide) credits, or finding carbon (dioxide) reduction projects whose benefits can then be sold to those with a surplus of emissions, it is entirely intangible." This blog has been tracking the 'Global Warming Scam' for over ten years now. There are a very large number of articles being published in blogs and more in the MSM who are waking up to the fact the public refuse to be conned any more and are objecting to the 'green madness' of governments and the artificially high price of energy. This blog will now be concentrating on the major stories as we move to the pragmatic view of 'not if, but when' and how the situation is managed back to reality. To quote Professor Lindzen, "a lot of people are going to look pretty silly"

Forget 'climate convert' Muller: Here's the real warming blockbuster
"If new techniques endorsed by the World Meteorological Organisation are applied to official figures, over half of the global warming reported by US land-based thermometers between 1979 and 2008 simply disappears, researchers have found. ....Yet it has been left to a group largely outside the climate establishment to first do the field work and then the maths, and apply the new metric to the data. The official agencies and climate academics have been able (some would say, required) to use the latest WMO-endorsed categorisation method for 18 months, but have failed to do so. Enter Watts et al The new paper is co-authored by TV weatherman and blogger Anthony Watts, the Climate Audit blog's Evan Jones and Stephen McIntyre, and Dr John Christy from the Department of Atmospheric Science at the University of Alabama, Huntsville. Only Christy, who maintains the US satellite temperature monitoring network, can be considered part of the scientific climatology establishment. ......Strikingly, NOAA's reliance on low-quality thermometers is made clear when airport stations are examined. The WMO's new classification scheme means 601 of 727 airports examined in the sample are non-compliant and low quality: ......The Watts work has significant implications. For example, work by climate activist and scientist James Hansen, who has overseen the NASA global temperature record's major increases, and Richard Muller's recent BEST programme - much in the news lately owing to his putative status as a "convert" to climate alarmism - use cruder station classification systems. Their statistical methods may be unimpeachable, but it now appears that they are using unreliable data sets."

Global Warming? Yeah, right
"Have a look at this chart. It tells you pretty much all you need to know about the much-anticipated scoop by Anthony Watts of Watts Up With That? What it means, in a nutshell, is that the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) – the US government body in charge of America's temperature record, has systematically exaggerated the extent of late 20th century global warming. In fact, it has doubled it. ........What Watts has conclusively demonstrated is that most of the weather stations in the US are so poorly sited that their temperature data is unreliable. Around 90 per cent have had their temperature readings skewed by the Urban Heat Island effect. While he has suspected this for some time what he has been unable to do until his latest, landmark paper (co-authored with Evan Jones of New York, Stephen McIntyre of Toronto, Canada, and Dr. John R. Christy from the Department of Atmospheric Science, University of Alabama, Huntsville) is to put precise figures on the degree of distortion involved. ........"

Anthony Watts delivers devastating scientific blow to Muller's claims: 'New analysis demonstrates that reported 1979-2008 U.S. temp trends are spuriously doubled'
"A reanalysis of U.S. surface station temperatures has been performed using the recently WMO-approved Siting Classification System devised by METEO-France’s Michel Leroy. The new siting classification more accurately characterizes the quality of the location in terms of monitoring long-term spatially representative surface temperature trends. The new analysis demonstrates that reported 1979-2008 U.S. temperature trends are spuriously doubled, with 92% of that over-estimation resulting from erroneous NOAA adjustments of well-sited stations upward. The paper is the first to use the updated siting system which addresses USHCN siting issues and data adjustments.
The new improved assessment, for the years 1979 to 2008, yields a trend of +0.155C per decade from the high quality sites, a +0.248 C per decade trend for poorly sited locations, and a trend of +0.309 C per decade after NOAA adjusts the data. This issue of station siting quality is expected to be an issue with respect to the monitoring of land surface temperature throughout the Global Historical Climate Network and in the BEST network."
Massive Human CO2 Emissions Still Unable To Reverse Nature's Global Cooling Over Last 15 Years
"This extended 180-month period of non-warming was not predicted by a single global climate model - nada, zilch, zero. The IPCC's climate models obviously have very serious, fundamental issues that can't just be 'tweaked' away."

Greenland’s ice cap was on the brink of melting… for a few hours
" Nothing could have better demonstrated the desperate straits to which global warmists have been driven as they try to keep their scare going than two satellite pictures in last Tuesday’s Guardian, showing a change that had come over the Greenland ice cap. One showed, in white, the second-largest mass of land ice on the planet, seemingly intact. The other, taken a few days later, showed in pink a seemingly ubiquitous melting. These Nasa pictures, we were told, showed alarmingly that, for the first time in history, the surface ice was melting right across Greenland. It took only hours for this scare story to be blown apart.
A tiny rise in air temperatures had momentarily taken them just above freezing, enough to melt a few inches of surface ice. But the ice below it, up to two miles deep, had been unaffected. This had happened before, in 1889. Ice cores show that it happens every 150 years or so. Within hours, as even the BBC admitted, the ice had frozen again. The shortest scare in history was over."
The Government plans to break its own climate change law
"It is not often our Government lets on that it is intending to commit a very serious breach of the law – even if it does so in such opaque fashion that it hopes no one will notice. But that is what we can read between the lines of last week’s statement by Ed Davey, Secretary of State for Energy and Climate Change, which revealed just what a catastrophic shambles he is making of Britain’s energy policy. .....So what we see emerging here for the first time is an official admission that, in order to keep our lights on and our economy running, we have no alternative but to rely massively on fossil-fuel gas, which will drive a coach and horses through the Climate Change Act’s target of an 80 per cent emissions cut. .....One day we will have our shale gas and we will see the Climate Change Act repealed. These things will happen because the penny is finally dropping that the only alternative is economic suicide. But as yet, our politicians are unable to admit openly the enormity of the mess they have landed us in."
A global warming skeptic who's a lot smarter than Al Gore
"Ever since the 1980s one of my favorite authors in the realm of science has been Freeman Dyson. ....... The Princeton physicist has written books on a wide range of topic, from the potential perils of nuclear weapons to discoveries in the human genome. .....Here's a great magazine piece that gives an in-depth look at Dyson and how he views the problem. An excerpt: “The climate-studies people who work with models always tend to overestimate their models,” Dyson was saying. “There's a great magazine piece that gives an in-depth look at Dyson and how he views the problem. An excerpt: “The climate-studies people who work with models always tend to overestimate their models,” Dyson was saying. “They come to believe models are real and forget they are only models.” Dyson speaks in calm, clear tones that carry simultaneous evidence of his English childhood, the move to the United States after completing his university studies at Cambridge and more than 50 years of marriage to the German-born Imme, but his opinions can be barbed, especially when a conversation turns to climate change. Climate models, he says, take into account atmospheric motion and water levels but have no feeling for the chemistry and biology of sky, soil and trees. “The biologists have essentially been pushed aside,” he continues. “Al Gore’s just an opportunist. The person who is really responsible for this overestimate of global warming is Jim Hansen. He consistently exaggerates all the dangers.” (h/t Climate Depot)

Predictions By Climate Models Are Flawed, Lindzen Tells Sandia National Laboratories
"For 30 years, climate scientists have been “locked into a simple-minded identification of climate with greenhouse-gas level. … That climate should be the function of a single parameter (like CO2) has always seemed implausible. Yet an obsessive focus on such an obvious oversimplification has likely set back progress by decades,” Lindzen said. For major climates of the past, other factors were more important than carbon dioxide."
Extreme, Unusual Cold Deviation Of -20°K Now Occurring Over Antarctica

The dash for gas: Osborne puts faith in power stations as he cuts subsidies for wind farms and dismisses new carbon emission targets
#Chancellor determined not to to commit Britain to climate targets beyond 2020
#Ministers to announce 10 per cent cut in wind farm subsidies and a review of planning rules
#Lib Dems agree gas-fired power stations will be key part of Britain's energy production well into 2030s

UK Chancellor Pledges To Give Communities Power To Block Wind Farms
"George Osborne is planning new powers to allow communities to block wind turbines as the Coalition row over green energy targets escalates. Whitehall sources said the Chancellor was pushing for changes to the planning regime as part of a deal with the Liberal Democrats over the future of climate change policy. There are 3,800 wind turbines across the UK, but at least 10,000 had been expected to be built to help meet Britain’s pledge to cut carbon emissions to 50 per cent of 1990 levels by 2025. But more than 100 Conservative MPs have called for cuts in state subsidies for new turbines, and changes to planning rules to limit their construction."

British Chancellor Demands End To Unilateral Climate & Renewables Targets
"The Chancellor has demanded that the Energy Secretary Ed Davey abandon the UK's pathway towards climate targets. In a leaked letter, George Osborne says renewables are too expensive and suggests expanding plans for gas-fired generation. James Murray, editor of BusinessGreen.com said: "Make no mistake this is an all-out assault on the entire green energy sector."
New paper finds no change in W Mediterranean precipitation in 300 years, contrary to IPCC claims
"A paper published today in Climatic Change examines the 14 longest precipitation records in the Western Mediterranean and finds no significant change over the past 300 years. This finding is contrary to claims of the IPCC that anthropogenic global warming allegedly leads to a decrease in precipitation over "most of the Mediterranean area."
Climate Modeling Failure: EU Research Confirms Major Fault In IPCC Models - Based On Incorrect Historical Record
"Climate modeling failure is unequivocal and ubiquitous for a multitude of reasons - a new study adds yet another reason as researchers determine the IPCC models incorrectly assume a historical polar amplification that did not happen..... Conclusions: Climate modeling failure is the rule rather than the exception. There are any number of significant reasons that IPCC models models are unable to successfully interpret the complexities of the real-world climate, leading to the plethora of inaccurate climate predictions. This newest research highlights the fact that climate model assumptions may be wrong. In this specific case, the climate models assumed a northern polar amplification of warming in the past that does not appear to have actually happened." (h/t Climate Depot)

MPs have no idea what the Climate Change Act means
"They passed it almost unanimously, but MPs still can't grasp the consequences of the most expensive legislation in British history ......The point about the Climate Change Act – which, according to the Government’s own figures, will cost us up to £18 billion every year until 2050 – is that it sets a target which cannot be achieved without our country committing economic suicide. One cannot expect a young climate zealot to understand that. But what is terrifying is not just that such a person should have in effect been put in charge of our country’s energy policy, but that there appears to be scarcely a single MP who can see why this is utterly insane. If these zombies were replaced by 650 men and women chosen at random off the street, the silliest and most destructive law ever passed by Parliament would be repealed within days."
Medieval Warm Period found in 120 proxies. Plus Roman era was similar to early 20th Century.
"Climate models cannot explain what caused the warming 1000 years ago, nor the cooling 300 years ago, so they can’t rule out the same factors aren’t changing the climate today (though they claim they can). If climate models can’t explain the past, they can’t predict the future."

Green Politicians Cause Another Food Crisis
"You would have thought that after the UN referred to biofuels as a "crime against humanity" there might have been at least a pause for thought. It seems, however, that pork barrel politics can win out over pretty much anything and the headlong rush to reduce the supply of food and to increase the supply of ethanol continues unabated.
And it's not just in the US either. The Parliamentary Office of Science and Technology (POST; headed by Lord Oxburgh) recently reported on the use of biofuels in the UK and there is little sign of concern over the contribution of biofuels. Indeed, the report notes that a parliamentary inquiry in 2007/8 determined that biofuel production had little impact on food prices. If the proportion of the US corn crop diverted to ethanol production is indeed 40%, it's hard to imagine how they reached this conclusion."

Being A Climate Scientist Means Never Having To Tell The Truth
"Climate science has reached a new low, where many of its adherents no longer make any attempt to do anything other spew the desired answer. ......The last paragraph is one of the stupidest ever written. La Nina is associated with cold global temperatures. Blaming La Nina on global warming is incomprehensibly dense. ......These people are making information up, without doing any research and without any basis in science."

UN-backed carbon offsets hit fresh record low
"Benchmark carbon credits backed by the United Nations plunged 11 percent to a fresh record low on Wednesday, taking a cue from a sharp drop in European Union emissions allowances amid uncertainty about an EU supply curb plan, traders said. The front-year certified emissions reductions (CERs) hit a record low of 2.92 euros ($3.57) in early trading, down nearly 11 percent from Tuesday's close. In the EU carbon market, the benchmark emissions allowance was trading down 6.4 percent at 7.19 euros at 0642 GMT. Traders attributed the fall in carbon prices to news late on Tuesday that the European Commission will not provide detail about the number of allowances that could be withheld from the oversupplied market when it unveils a set of proposals on July 25. Carbon Tax working already in Canberra
"Canberra has shivered through its eighth straight freezing, frosty morning, the coldest stretch of winter mornings in 47 years. The mercury dropped to a chilly minus 4.8 degrees at 6.51am this morning, topping off eight consecutive mornings below minus 2.3 degrees. The eight-day cold spell, with an average minimum temperature of minus 4.9, is the coldest string of July mornings since 1965. The all-time record was in July 1962, when the average temperature over an eight-day period was minus 7."
IPCC Admits Its Past Reports Were Junk
"The "recommendations" issued by the IAC were not minor adjustments to a fundamentally sound scientific procedure. Here are some of the findings of the IAC's 2010 report.
The IAC reported that IPCC lead authors fail to give "due consideration ... to properly documented alternative views" (p. 20), fail to "provide detailed written responses to the most significant review issues identified by the Review Editors" (p. 21), and are not "consider[ing] review comments carefully and document[ing] their responses" (p. 22). In plain English: the IPCC reports are not peer-reviewed.
The IAC found that "the IPCC has no formal process or criteria for selecting authors" and "the selection criteria seemed arbitrary to many respondents" (p. 18). Government officials appoint scientists from their countries and "do not always nominate the best scientists from among those who volunteer, either because they do not know who these scientists are or because political considerations are given more weight than scientific qualifications" (p. 18). In other words: authors are selected from a "club" of scientists and nonscientists who agree with the alarmist perspective favored by politicians.
The rewriting of the Summary for Policy Makers by politicians and environmental activists -- a problem called out by global warming realists for many years, but with little apparent notice by the media or policymakers -- was plainly admitted, perhaps for the first time by an organization in the "mainstream" of alarmist climate change thinking. "[M]any were concerned that reinterpretations of the assessment's findings, suggested in the final Plenary, might be politically motivated," the IAC auditors wrote. The scientists they interviewed commonly found the Synthesis Report "too political" (p. 25)."
Charles Sturt’s time: so hot that thermometers exploded. Was Australia’s hottest day in 1828? 53.9C!
"Back before man-made climate change was frying Australia, when CO2 was around 300ppm, the continent savoured an ideal preindustrial climate, right? (This is the kind of climate we are spending $10bn per annum to get back too?) We are told today’s climate has more records and more extremes than times gone by, but the few records we have from the early 1800’s are eye-popping. Things were not just hotter, but so wildly hot it burst thermometers. The earliest temperature records we have show that Australia was a land of shocking heatwaves and droughts, except for when it was bitterly cold or raging in flood. In other words, nothing has changed, except possibly things might not be quite so hot now."
It was the best of droughts, it was the worst of droughts
"Of course, the media are advancing all kinds of claims about the current drought affecting much of the US, because it is the “worst in fifty years”. They claim that it is clear evidence of global warming, that it shows how much things have changed, that this is the face of global warming. ...I don’t want to minimize the suffering of those in the drought-affected areas. Droughts are bad news for the people affected. But this is not the worst drought in 50 years—it’s among the best droughts in 5,000 years. So the claim that big droughts are evidence of human-caused warming is a sad joke."

It may not look like a 'hotter, drier summer’ – but it’s global warming all the same
"As the global warming scare continues to crumble, its true believers thresh around ever more wildly to claim every “extreme weather event” as proof that their Old Time Religion is still alive and kicking. .....I was reminiscing the other day about some of the “extreme weather events” I experienced before global warming was invented, such as the record 11in of rain that fell in one day in Dorset in July 1955, or the record 6.74in that fell in 40 minutes on Hampstead, where I lived, in August 1975. Further back, I recalled the Lynmouth flood disaster killing 34 people in August 1952, followed only five months later by the great North Sea flood of 1953 which killed 307 people in England alone. All the poor old warmists can go on now is a washed-out spring and midsummer – when every local council in the land is still telling us that we can expect “hotter, drier summers”. I am sure they were predicting much the same in Noah’s time."
Newly found weather records show 1930′s as being far worse than the present for extreme weather
"It also is useful for putting the recent heat wave in perspective. Despite the 24/7 caterwauling, only two new state records—South Carolina and Georgia—are currently under investigation. And, looking carefully at Shein et al. dataset, there appears to be a remarkable lack of all-time records in recent years. This is particularly striking given the increasing urbanization of the U.S. and the consequent “non climatic” warming that creeps into previously pristine records. Everything else being equal—and with no warming from increased greenhouse gases—most statewide records should be in or near big cities. But they aren’t."
Could this be the coldest July in history for Anchorage?
"On July 11, Anchorage's high was 56 degrees. A day later, it maxed out at 54. To date, Anchorage has not seen one day this month at or above the projected average high of 65-66 degrees. Current data makes this July the coldest since 1920." (H/T Climate Depot)
Soaring green energy taxes could force firms out of UK as industry becomes uncompetitive
"Industry will become increasingly uncompetitive due to soaring green energy taxes, according to the Government’s own advisers. A shocking report has found UK manufacturers’ electricity bills are already significantly higher than those in other leading nations due to climate change levies. By the end of the decade, our green taxes will be double those in other EU nations and dozens of times higher than those in the US."

Delusions Down Under
"I’m halfway through my speaking tour of Australia and a meeting of coral reef experts being held in this country is attracting media attention. Scientists have released a Consensus Statement on Climate Change and Coral Reefs that, in its words, calls on all governments to ensure the future of coral reefs, through global action to reduce the emissions of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases…
...Then, as an antidote, click over here to Australian blogger Jennifer Marohasy’s explanation of why she thinks the alleged experts are crying wolf about the supposedly dire fate of the Great Barrier Reef.
Here’s a small taste:
All the species of coral that occur in the Great Barrier Reef also grow in Papua New Guinea where the waters are 2 degrees warmer.
Good grief.
Germany’s Green Disaster: Wave Of Solar Bankruptcies Wipes Off Almost 25 Billion Euros

Warmists propose that colder Northern Hemisphere winters since 1988 are due to global warming
"So what's going on here?
Cohen et al. say that "whether the recent colder winters are a consequence of internal variability or a response to changes in boundary forcings resulting from climate change remains an open question." But like most scientists who love to resolve dilemmas, they go on to propose their answer to the puzzle, suggesting that "summer and autumn warming trends are concurrent with increases in high-latitude moisture and an increase in Eurasian snow cover, which dynamically induces large-scale wintertime cooling."
Liberal Media & How It Works: Coal is Bad, Except When it’s Socialist and Subsidised.
"So, according to the liberal media, coal is evil, destroying the planet, and any moves to cut coal production would be welcomed and celebrated right? Well, not quite. When the EPA, under the Obama administration makes it “nearly impossible” to build new coal power plants, that’s a good thing according to The Guardian. But look at the response when Spain’s new centre-right administration recently announced cuts to subsidies for coal production in a socialist area of Spain. When a right wing administration wants to cut subsidies for coal production, the outcome, apparently, is very different: ..."
"..So. I hope this helps to explain how liberal media works, and helps clarify the party position on coal: when it’s affecting Republican voters in places like West Virginia, then it’s an evil fossil fuel that is being corruptly sanctioned by big money interests. It must be stamped out. But when it affects socialist voting areas of Europe, and it’s a right-wing administration cutting subsidies, then pity the unborn grandchildren, the weeping elderly and the heroic miners who will “starve” on the streets because those evil capitalists won’t fund coal.
I hope that’s all perfectly clear now."

King Coal almost edged out oil as the world’s leading energy resource in 2011
" Far from moving away from burning ‘dirty’ coal, global consumption is rising. According to the BP Statistical Review of World Energy released in mid-June, global energy consumption grew by 2.5 percent in 201l in line with long-term trends. However, global coal production also increased last year by almost half a billion tonnes. That’s exceptional. It represents a 6 percent increase in a single year and tops an annual average growth rate of 4.6 percent a year over the last decade. In short, King Coal almost edged out oil as the world’s leading energy resource in 2011 hitting 30 percent of global energy consumption. And it is set to surpass (and probably already has) oil as the world’s most important commodity in 2012. In stark contrast to the U.S., Europe’s use of natural gas fell last year by 2.1 percent as gas-fired plants, which needed only half the number of carbon permits, became increasingly uncompetitive. Prices fell sharply by 17 percent to just 8 euros a tonne. Indeed, so expensive has gas become in Europe that the major players like EON and RWE are considering shutting down their gas-fired plants entirely by 2015. Coal – the literal bête noire for all green politicos – is the only viable alternative."

Tree-rings prove climate was WARMER in Roman and Medieval times than it is now - and world has been cooling for 2,000 years
"Rings in fossilised pine trees have proven that the world was much warmer than previously thought - and the earth has been slowly COOLING for 2,000 years. Measurements stretching back to 138BC prove that the Earth is slowly cooling due to changes in the distance between the Earth and the sun. The finding may force scientists to rethink current theories of the impact of global warming. It is the first time that researchers have been able to accurately measure trends in global temperature over the last two millennia. Over that time, the world has been getting cooler - and previous estimates, used as the basis for current climate science, are wrong."
Sick and tired of that global warming whine
"...Science is about verifiable and transparent experimental replication, so much of which is ignored by the Catechism of Global Warming — otherwise known as "assessment reports" — foisted upon the public by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change. Enough holes have been poked in these reports to make any assertion of scientific consensus a joke.
Well-documented is the IPCC's conduct unbecoming scientists: secrecy, questionable data, reliance on nonscientific "studies" (including news releases), massaging research to produce a desired result, lack of objectivity and independence, heavy involvement of activist (i.e. nonscientific) groups or of people whose interests are pecuniary, and wild conclusions (e.g. the supposed disappearance of Himalayan glaciers by 2035). Their catastrophic climate predictions are based on an arrogant presumption that the multiple causations of something as complex and poorly understood as climate change can be plugged into a computer, and out pops unchallengeable results. Like the assertion — now widely discredited — that climate change was spawning a flood of killer hurricanes. Garbage in, garbage out."
Nobel prize winning physicist explains why global warming is 'a new religion' and 'pseudoscience'
"The video of the recent lecture given by Nobel Laureate physicist Dr. Ivar Giaever at the 2012 meeting of Nobel Laureates is now available online. In the highly recommended lecture, Dr. Giaever explains why global warming is a "pseudoscience" that begins with an emotionally-appealing hypothesis, and "then only looks for items which appear to support it," while ignoring ample contrary evidence. Dr. Giaever explains why "global warming has become a new religion - because you can't discuss it - and that is wrong."

Jetboat grounded as Shotover freezes
"The worst big freeze in almost 20 years has left parts of the Shotover River frozen solid, metres across, keeping jetboat operators off the water for almost record periods. The river has been choked with ice, making it too dangerous for boats to operate because of the risk of large chunks of ice getting sucked into the jet units, causing power and steering to fail. Ngai Tahu Tourism southern region jetboating manager Clark Scott said until 2pm yesterday Shotover Jet was getting close to its 1994 record of 11 consecutive days not operating because of ice. The big red boats finally got back on the water for two hours after a frustrating eight-day hiatus. ......MetService was forecasting another -4 degrees Celsius overnight chiller last night and possibly again tonight. Mr Scott said one morning last week, when the air temperature dropped to -10C, the water temperature was -2C even though the entire river had not frozen over. "It's because the water is flowing so quickly it has no chance to solidify. It's phenomenal."

EU Parliamentarian Calls Germany’s Energy Policy “Senseless…Will Cost €2.3 Trillion To Reduce Temperature 0.003°C”
"EU Parliamentarian Herbert Reul of Germany’s conservative CDU Party has produced a video about energy policy in Germany and put it up at Youtube and the Internet. His first message: The isolated energy policy of the German government will cost Germans €2.3 trillion €. In numbers that’s 2,300,000,000,000 €. And for what? To brake a computer-simulated increase in global temperature a whole 0.003 °C. It is claimed that it serves to “protect the climate”.

Senior Conservative MP John Redwood has written an open letter to the new director general of the BBC, discussing its institutional bias. Coverage of global warming is mentioned.
"The same problem [of institutional bias against certain views of the world] dogs the Corporation’s treatment of climate change theory. The BBC takes the view that the “science is settled”. Any intelligent person should know that by definition the science is never settled. ....Many intelligent people have many different reaons for disagreeing with pure climate change theory and more importantly with the policy conclusions that flow from it in the debate. The BBC does all too little to give these dissenting voices decent airtime,to explore their disagreements and to allow viewers and listeners to make up their own minds."
You can’t have shale gas – it might halve your bills
" One of the more remarkable things happening in the world at the moment is the revolution being brought about in the US energy market by cheap shale gas. In four years this has halved the cost of gas, saving US energy users an estimated $100 billion. Thanks to the growing switch from coal to less carbon-intensive gas, US “carbon emissions”, for what it’s worth, have also plummeted to their lowest level in 20 years. In Britain, thanks to the utter incompetence of those in charge of our energy policy, the opposite has happened. The rising cost of imported gas has led our electricity companies to switch back to coal, which in the past two weeks has been contributing up to 40 per cent or more of our power. More than once, however, the contribution from all our 3,500 wind turbines put together has been as little as 0.2 per cent, with coal-fired power stations contributing 200 times as much. As for that shale gas, of which we also have huge reserves, our Government seems to do all it can to discourage it. This is because it is just another fossil fuel, which won’t help us meet our (wholly unachievable) EU target of generating 32 per cent of our electricity, by 2020, from “renewables” – such as those useless windmills. So our energy bills continue to soar and, with half our coal-fired power stations due to close under an EU directive, the prospect of Britain’s lights going out and computers closing down gets nearer by the month. Has there ever been, in our country’s history, a madder flight from reality?"
Solar Climate Change: Rain rain go away: How the Jetstream is blocking a UK summer by Alex Beresford: ITV Weather Presenter
"The Jetstream is blocking all the summer heat coming up from the near continent, acting like an invisible barrier bouncing the warm air back to where it came from. So whilst it holds off areas of high pressure that would rescue summer, it's letting in the infamous unsettled weather which comes in off the Atlantic Ocean, crossing over us with nothing to stand in its way."
The folly of blaming the Eastern U.S. heat wave on global warming
"It isn’t global. The is weather, not climate. It is caused by a persistent blocking high pressure pattern. In a day or two, that red splotch over the eastern USA will be gone."

DC Was Much Hotter During The 1930s
"If you want an idea of how dishonest the Capital Weather Gang’s claims are, check out these numbers. Lincoln, Virginia has had 1281 days since 1901 over 95 degrees. 87% of those hot days occurred when CO2 was below 350 ppm CO2. There is no connection between heatwaves in DC and CO2 – and anyone who claims there is, is either an idiot or a liar."
Global Warm-Mongers Again Ignore Contrary Evidence
"If what we've seen in parts of the U.S. recently is what global warming looks like, we have to wonder what the low temperatures in other regions indicate. During just one day in the last week of June, 46 cities across the country set or tied record lows, says Mark Johnson of newsnet5.com in Cleveland."

Germany's €300 Billion Green Energy Disaster
"A new study by Berlin's Technical University estimates that renewable energy subsidies between now and 2030, including an expansion of the power grid, will saddle German energy consumers with costs well over €300 billion ($377 billion)."
Climate Change “Will Turn African Savannah Into Forest“
"A new study published in peer reviewed Nature Magazine, by a German university research team reveals that large swathes of Africa’s savannahs will become forests by the end of the century. Apparently atmospheric shifts and changes to the continent’s climate will see tree cover increase as critical levels of carbon dioxide are reached. Not only will this result in Africa becoming immersed in thousands of acres of beautiful oxygen-replenishing forests, the scientists believe the change will be gradual, meaning that there is no dangerous shock to the earth’s system. Dr Steve Higgins of Goethe University described the findings as “reassuring”. Carbon emissions are not all about melting icecaps…"
A Brief History Of UK Weather In June
"According to the Met Office, the UK has just experienced the wettest June since records began in 1910. This actually is a slightly misleading statement, as the Met Office, on their own website, have records going back to 1766, which confirm that, in England and Wales, 1860 was the wettest year with 157.1mm compared to 151.2mm this year. (Figures for Scotland are shown separately, which show there have been seven wetter Junes since 1910)."
Nobel prize winner — Ivar Giaever — “climate change is pseudoscience”
"I very much enjoyed watching the whole speech. This is breaking new ground. Not that he is telling die-hard skeptics anything new science-wise, but he’s convincing, authoritative, and entertaining and he’s reaching a layer of society with quiet but penetrating influence. No I don’t expect news headlines. It’s more that the seed has been planted, the message will spread and today we are just a bit closer to the point where it becomes very uncool to be caught looking like the gullible fool who didn’t question the propaganda. The alarmists must fear something exactly like this."
Piers Corbyn: USA JULY 2012 : Could it get worse? Yes!
"Ongoing extremes and major contrasts across USA and Europe and associated large amplitude swings in the Jet Stream are aspects of pre-Little Ice Age Weather patterns as the world descends towards a new Little Ice Age of a colder climate caused by low solar activity especially around 2020-45."

Carbon Price Floor At Risk Of Being Scrapped (In Australia)
"IT WAS MEANT TO BE one of the key planks of the government's carbon policy - a floor price of $15 when emissions trading starts in 2015. But Federal Labor is now secretly negotiating to dump - or dramatically rejig - the proposed three year floor price."
Brr, that was a cold one
"In 24 years of living at Papaiti, Frank Wright had never seen a frost as hard as yesterday morning's. The official low temperature recorded in Wanganui city overnight on Sunday and into Monday morning was -2C but at Mr Wright's property the thermometer dipped to -7C. "We've seen it as low as -3C, but never -7C before. "It was absolutely white on the lawn - it was really beautiful." Mr Wright said he and his wife were keeping warm by the fire. "Our wood burner has been going non-stop." Gonville resident Len Goldsack had never seen a frost like it in Wanganui in his nearly 80 years. "I have seen frosts like that, but only when I've been visiting in Invercargill. I can tell you, it was a good one."

Raining June: Last month was the wettest since records began in 1910 after 5.7in of rain fell (more than DOUBLE the average)
"This June was the wettest since records began, with double the average rain falling during the month, the Met Office said today. Provisional figures showed the UK received 145.3mm (5.7 inches) during June, beating the previous record of 136.2mm (5.4 inches) seen in June 2007 - and more than double the average for June of 64.9mm (2.5 inches) It is the second month this year to see record-breaking amounts of rain, after this April became the wettest in the records dating back more than a century to 1910."

The Highest Temperature Reading Doesn’t Necessarily Mean a Record Hot Day
"The two degree difference between the previous record reading and the June 29th one may well be due to both the urban heat island effect and the “airport heat island effect,” a much understudied phenomenon (despite the fact that anyone who has stepped on asphalt in the middle of summer knows that the only thing worse is walking on coals)."
The Tricky Business of Counting Rain
"The number of water-monitoring stations around the world has declined steadily over the last quarter-century, and economic doldrums and a lack of resolve on the policy-making front could cause the trend to hold for years to come, researchers warn. This could deprive scientists and practitioners of data essential to immediate and long-term water resource management decisions, many argue. From 1989 to 2006, the number of stations across Europe fell by nearly half, from 10,000 to less than 6,000, according to a study published this month in the Journal of Hydrometeorology. (Half of the 6,000 are in Germany.) A far more precipitous decline occurred in South America, where the numbers dropped from nearly 4,300 to 400. The United States has witnessed one of the mildest contractions, while large swaths of Africa and Asia remain without a single gauge." (H/T Tom Nelson)
Journal Of Climate Change: Last 15 Years, Netherlands Has Seen The Fewest Number Of Storms Since Records Began
"At Der Spiegel Axel Bojanowski writes a story about a study appearing in the journal Climate Change: A 101 year record of windstorms in the Netherlands."
