Here’s the new desperate meme about to turn your weather report into an advertisement for carbon trading. The people are not scared enough. Say hello to scientismic marketing. It sure isn’t science.
The generators of Climate Fear start with broken models that we know don’t predict global temperatures, upper tropospheric humidity, Antarctic sea ice, and ocean heat (or much of anything else). They then use these to model the chances of individual storms, or floods — something they were not designed to do. Then they run these mistakes 5 million times with and without the magic CO2 forcing. They might as well stand back, look solemn, and pick a percentage or throw a dart. The great thing is, only God knows the right answer. The models can’t “miss”.
Was that flood 35% due to man-made emissions? Was that tornado 50% more deadly? (Did it rain on your wedding day? Sue someone!)
Of course, New Scientist swallows the theme whole, tea-leaves and all. No hard questions asked."

Hello Soviet style weather service? On January 3, 1909, an extremely hot 51.7C (125F) was recorded at Bourke. It’s possibly the hottest ever temperature recorded in a Stevenson Screen in Australia, but the BOM has removed it as a clerical error. There are legitimate questions about the accuracy of records done so long ago — standards were different. But there are very legitimate questions about the BOMs treatment of this historic data. ‘The BOM has also removed the 40 years of weather recorded before 1910, which includes some very hot times. Now we find out the handwritten original notes from 62 years of the mid 20th Century were supposed to be dumped in 1996 as well. Luckily, these historic documents were saved from the dustbin and quietly kept in private hands instead."

THE Bureau of Meteorology has been accused of manipulating historic temperature records to fit a predetermined view of global warming.Same accusation in the US:
Researcher Jennifer Marohasy ... has analysed the raw data from dozens of locations across Australia and matched it against the new data used by BOM showing that temperatures were progressively warming.
In many cases, Dr Marohasy said, temperature trends had changed from slight cooling to dramatic warming over 100 years.
BOM has rejected Dr Marohasy’s claims and said the agency had used world’s best practice and a peer reviewed process to modify the physical temperature records that had been recorded at weather stations across the country.
It said data from a selection of weather stations underwent a process known as “homogenisation” to correct for anomalies.

There are lots of interesting new studies emerging on trends in disasters and extreme events, and their possible relation to changes in climate, human-caused or otherwise. A new paper in the Hydrological Sciences Journal (Stevens et al. here in PDF) finds no evidence for an increase in UK flooding, once the data is normalized for exposure. .....Add Stevens et al. 2014 to the large and growing academic literature indicating that increasing disaster losses cannot at present be attributed to human-caused climate change."

The diminishing influence of increasing Carbon Dioxide on temperature

So increasing CO2 in the atmosphere can not now inevitably lead directly to much more warming and certainly not to a catastrophic and dangerous temperature increase.
Importantly as the future temperature effect of increasing CO2 emissions can only be so minor, there is no possibility of ever attaining the much vaunted political target of less than +2.0°C by the control of CO2 emissions[3].
Global Warming advocates always assert that all increases in the concentration of CO2 are solely man-made. This is not necessarily so, as the biosphere and slightly warming oceans will also outgas CO2. In any event at ~3% of the total[4] Man-made CO2 at its maximum is only a minor part of the CO2 transport within the atmosphere. The recent IPCC report now admits that currently increasing CO2 levels are probably only ~50% man-made.
On the other hand it is likely that any current global warming, if continuing and increased CO2 is:
In a rational, non-political world, that prospect should be greeted with unmitigated joy."

Power went down on July 30th and is now partially restored. The BAS waited to report the incident until power came back up, however now reports that the incident was so serious that all science activities have been suspended and emergency contingency plans to abandon some of Halley’s eight modules and attempt to shelter in a remaining few have been prepared.
The incident is particularly serious, as the station is likely completely cut off from rescue for months.
The incident occurred during the height of the Antarctic winter while southern sea ice is at or near record highs (Marc Morano has details at Climate Depot).

American Physicians and Surgeons, Indur Goklany calculated the
additional mortality burden of biofuels policies and found that nearly
200,000 people died in 2010 alone, because of efforts to use biofuels to
reduce CO2 emissions.
Goklany (2011) estimated that the
increase in the poverty headcount due to higher biofuel production
between 2010 and 2004 implies 192,000 additional deaths and 6.7 million
additional lost DALYs in 2010 alone.
He compared this death tally to the WHO
figures for deaths attributed to global warming and finds that the
biofuels policies are more deadly. (And he is not including any increase
in poverty due to other anti-global warming practices)."

A Dozen States File Suit Against New Coal Rules

The
E.P.A. rule, announced by President Obama on June 2, is aimed at
slashing carbon emissions from coal-fired power plants, the nation’s
largest source of planet-warming pollution. Under the rule, each state
would have to design and submit a plan to cut carbon pollution, which
must then be approved by the E.P.A.
The
states’ lawsuit contends that the E.P.A. lacks legal authority in the
matter. The agency wants to release the final rule under the terms of
the Clean Air Act,
which requires the federal government to regulate all substances
defined as pollutants. The E.P.A. determined in 2009 that carbon dioxide
met the definition of a pollutant, a decision that has withstood
numerous legal challenges.
But
the states say that the E.P.A. may not issue separate regulations on
power plants using different sections of the Clean Air Act.
In
2011, the E.P.A. issued regulations governing mercury emissions; thus,
the plaintiffs say, it does not have the authority to issue a new
regulation on carbon emissions from the same power plants.

The Maldives, for all its troubles and supposed climate worries, doesn’t seem to get the fact that the last thing you do is spend money on new airports, passenger terminals, and cargo terminals on the islands you are supposedly going to have to eventually abandon.
Having your hand out for “climate change trust money” while building new airports to handle increased tourism doesn’t wash. “Scam” is too nice of a word to use here."
