Climategate
"Carbon (Dioxide) trading is now the fastest growing commodities market on earth.....And here’s the great thing about it. Unlike traditional commodities markets, which will eventually involve delivery to someone in physical form, the carbon (dioxide) market is based on lack of delivery of an invisible substance to no-one. Since the market revolves around creating carbon (dioxide) credits, or finding carbon (dioxide) reduction projects whose benefits can then be sold to those with a surplus of emissions, it is entirely intangible." (Telegraph)
This blog has been tracking the 'Global Warming Scam' for over ten years now. There are a very large number of articles being published in blogs and more in the MSM who are waking up to the fact the public refuse to be conned any more and are objecting to the 'green madness' of governments and the artificially high price of energy. This blog will now be concentrating on the major stories as we move to the pragmatic view of 'not if, but when' and how the situation is managed back to reality. To quote Professor Lindzen, "a lot of people are going to look pretty silly"

Glaciergate’s Other WWF Connection
"I’ve been writing about how the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) systematically recruited scientists associated with the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) to join its own, parallel, panel. Between 2004 and 2008 the WWF signed-up 130 scientists – most of whom, it said, were members of the IPCC (please see my earlier posts here, here, and here).
The fact that these scientists were incapable of understanding that it was wildly improper to join an organization with a climate change axe to grind at the same time that they were supposed to be making careful, impartial, objective decisions about climate change tells us that advanced degrees aren’t everything.
All the education in the world is no substitute for good judgment. And, sooner or later, the chickens do come home to roost."

Green Panic: Brussels Desperate To Block Shale Revolution
"Some people will be leaping on this story:
BRUSSELS—Oversights in REACH registration dossiers could mean the use of hazardous chemicals in hydraulic fracturing to extract shale gas is technically illegal in the European Union, the European Commission told BNA Sept. 27.
.....Run this one by me again: Although polyacrylamide is widely used to actually clean up water, you can't use it in fracking because we have to run a big risk exercise to make sure that it doesn't actually pollute water. Or food. Or children's toys. Or even, God forbid: it may make people blind. Or is that to see? No matter. Let's have a six year study period just to make sure."
Plants gobbling up CO2 – 45% more than thought
"London – The global uptake of carbon by land plants may be up to 45 per cent more than previously thought. This is the conclusion of an international team of scientists, based on the variability of heavy oxygen atoms in the carbon dioxide of the atmosphere driven by the El Niño effect. As the oxygen atoms in carbon dioxide were converted faster than expected during the El Niño years, current estimates for the uptake of carbon by plants are probably too low. These should be corrected upwards, say the researchers in the current issue of the scientific journal NATURE. "

And so it goes… Sometimes you really have to wonder what the fuss is about."

"German flagship ARD public television broadcast a half hour show that was actually fully devoted to poking fun at the now religious climate movement in Germany."
Gore fakes 'proof' of Man Made Global Warming shock
"Watts Up With That has achieved a truly astonishing scoop. It seems that the world-renowned climatological expert Al Gore may have faked a "high school physics" experiment "proving" that Man Made Global Warming is fact, not fantasy.
Oh all right, I'll turn off the sarcasm.
What I think is most interesting is not so much that Gore has been caught out telling porkie pies, nor that the TV crew faked every last detail of the experiment. Faking it is what TV does all the time, I'm afraid. As for Al Gore and extravagant untruths well, it's scorpions, frogs and rivers, is it not? No, what's so thoroughly cherishable about this story is the forensic attention to detail which Anthony Watts has brought to bear on it."
Video analysis and scene replication suggests that Al Gore’s Climate Reality Project fabricated their Climate 101 video “Simple Experiment”
"The only conclusion one can make from these four points is that the video of the “simple experiment” is a complete fabrication done in post production."

Glossary of Global Warming and Climate Terms
SAMPLE:
WWF reports -Magazine articles and telephone interviews
Consensus- The bane of true science and research
Peer review- Pal review or a favour repaid
Science reporter- Reject from the sports desk
Natural variability- Our models don't work
Uncertainty- We don't know why our models don't work
Politics, not science
"Don’t forget, Ian Chubb is Australia’s Chief Scientist, but he appears to have obtained his understanding of climate from the back of a cornflake packet (or a WWF campaign leaflet, otherwise known as the IPCC’s 4th Assessment Report), given some of his quotes in the Joint Select Committee hearing yesterday. It’s really quite embarrassing."
Global Warming: the Guilty Men
"Guilty Men won't actually be experiencing even the slightest frisson of guilt or embarrassment about the decent people whose reputations they have helped destroy, or the damage they have done to our economy, our democracy and our freedoms.
It will be same, unfortunately, when the Great Global Warming Scam finally unravels for good. There will be no payback for the dodgy scientists, green activists, shyster politicians, rent-seeking businessmen, faceless technocrats and media useful idiots who exploited and stoked this, the biggest and most expensive outbreak of mass hysteria in history."
Carbon pathway to disaster
"By 2050 we will have purchased over 9,300Mt of carbon credits at a cost of more than $750 billion. (Modelling Chart Data 5.1& 5.2). This is a lot of money - if we could have put a million dollars in a piggybank every day from the day Jesus was born until today we would not have accumulated that much. No Australian receives anything in exchange for this $750,000,000,000, except permission to emit CO2 into the atmosphere."

War of words over global warming as Nobel laureate resigns in protest
"In a fresh challenge to claims that there is scientific "consensus" on climate change, Prof Ivar Giaever has resigned from the American Physical Society, where his peers had elected him a fellow to honour his work. The society, which has 48,000 members, has adopted a policy statement which states: "The evidence is incontrovertible: global warming is occurring."
But Prof Giaever, who shared the 1973 Nobel award for physics, told The Sunday Telegraph. "Incontrovertible is not a scientific word. Nothing is incontrovertible in science."
The US-based Norwegian physicist, who is the chief technology officer at Applied Biophysics Inc and a retired academic at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, the oldest technological university in the English-speaking world, added: "Global warming has become the new religion."
APS: AGW is controvertible
"This appears to be the surprising implication of a statement by the American Physical Society. Hot on the heels of the resignation of Nobel laureate Ivar Giaever from its membership, the society has issued a statement declaring that it has all been a terrible misunderstanding."
Save the planet! Evict the humans
"Across Africa, some of the world’s poorest people have been thrown off land to make way for foreign investors, often uprooting local farmers so that food can be grown on a commercial scale and shipped to richer countries overseas. But in this case, the government and the company said the settlers were illegal and evicted for a good cause: to protect the environment and help fight global warming. "

Another Professor Resigns – From The Belgian European Society of Engineers and Industrialists SEII
"Yet another professor, Dr. Ir. Henri A. Masson, has resigned from yet another once prestigious organisation, which too has succumbed to the darkness of dogmatism and censorship."
Solargate: Worse and Worse
"Everything the environmental movement has pushed the President to do has turned into a political mess. The green jobs agenda lies in ruins; so does cap and trade — and so does the push for a global carbon treaty. Yet environmentalists, rather than being ashamed and embarrassed that their agenda flops disastrously when put to the test, are bitter and resentful toward the White House and Democrats generally.
The green movement as it is now led is a politician’s nightmare. It pushes its political allies toward unpopular and unworkable ideas, but its members are stringent and demanding. Sooner or later movements like this go under the bus; look for many Democrats to quietly distance themselves from a movement and an agenda that demand a great deal but don’t offer much in return."

Science is Never “Settled”
"The likes of George Monbiot and Al Gore get pretty hysterical about global warming / cooling / dimming or whatever current theory is in vogue. “The science is settled” they scream in an attempt to block any debate. In reality physicists, as a sub-section of the scientific community, are a lot less keen on the whole carbon and climate scare racket. Scientists are not usually unanimous on any subject which is complex."
Watermelons v the Shale Gas Miracle
"God knows we could all do with some good news right now. And as it happens, from Oop North near Blackpool this week, we had good news in spades. Sure, it was known Britain was sitting on some pretty sizeable shale gas deposits. What hadn't been announced before though, was just how sizeable. An area in northwest England may contain 200 trillion cubic feet of shale gas, putting it in the same league as some of the vast shale-gas plays that have transformed the U.S. energy industry.
The figure for the area near Blackpool, released Wednesday by Cuadrilla Resources, a small oil-and-gas company with operations in England's Bowland Shale, highlights the U.K.'s emerging position as a new frontier for unconventional gas exploration.
I said "good news" but that seriously understates the case. It may be the best thing to happen to the British economy since the discovery of North Sea oil and gas; possibly since the Industrial Revolution. Those who've been following the story closely such as Nick Grealy at the No Hot Air blog understand this perfectly well: "
The Times Atlas of the world, it is a changing
"There has been a considerable fuss about the feel-good 14th Edition of the Times Atlas of the World even in the Guardian, which did elicit an apology from the Times.

Al Gore's five loaves and two fishes
"Not content with having invented the internet, the great Climate Science communicator Al Gore appears to have developed still more miraculous skills of late: the ability to turn 17,000 into 8.6 million – just like that.
The figures refer to the number of "views" for Gore's special "24 Hours Of ManBearPig" which this column helped celebrate the other day. Gore claims that as many as 8.6 million flocked to his thrilling festival of climate fear; but a nasty cruel man called Charles the Moderator at Watts Up With That? has "done the math" and reckons the figure is probably more like 17,000. And that, he believes, is a generous estimate. "
List of scientists opposing the mainstream scientific assessment of global warming
"I recently stumbled on this Wikipedia page: List of scientists opposing the mainstream scientific assessment of global warming, which is far from complete, but would like to make others aware, and in case some are inclined to help contribute to the page. "
Global warming and the twisting of our children's minds
"With active encouragement from the Government, whole generations of school-children have now had the apocalyptic threat of climate change pushed down their throats — not just in science classes, but in almost any subject you can think of (questions on the need to fight global warming have even cropped up in English GCSE papers). In geography, the present curriculum no longer concentrates on countries, continents, rivers, mountains or cities. Instead, it insists that pupils should learn about global warming and climate change and the likely effects of rising sea levels. The propaganda is all-encompassing. The Climate Change Schools Project, an outfit that exists in partnership with the Environment Agency and other government-funded bodies, promises on its website ‘to put global warming at the heart of the national curriculum . . . We want schools to become the “hub” of excellence in climate change teaching, learning and positive action in their local communities.’...Our politicians still believe this is the best way to fight the warming threat. But too much evidence has come to light in recent years to suggest that much of their belief in global warming may be little more than a vastly over-blown scare."
Peer review is dead, long live blog review
"Peer review acts as a general screening tool, but it is by no means perfect, and it is ridiculous to expect it to work perfectly every time."
FactCheck:Don't be fooled on fuel bills (Ch4)
"Based on the information currently available to us, the average fuel bill will be more expensive in 2020. If Chris Huhne wants to claim otherwise, he should publish the research he’s keeping up his sleeve – and FactCheck will look again. However, even if the new figures work in the energy secretary’s favour, all forecasts are heavily contingent on assumptions about oil and gas prices, which have been known to fluctuate wildly in the past. As things stand at the moment, far from helping the situation, as Mr Huhne claims, the government’s low-carbon policies will actually add to the burden on householders."

A greener Greenland? Times Atlas 'error' overstates global warming
"Glaciologist Dr Poul Christoffersen of the Scott Institute said: ‘We believe that the figure of a 15 per cent decrease in permanent ice cover since the publication of the previous atlas 12 years ago is both incorrect and misleading.
‘We compared recent satellite images of Greenland with the new map and found that there are in fact still numerous glaciers and permanent ice cover where the new Times Atlas shows ice-free conditions and the emergence of new lands. ‘We conclude that a sizeable portion of the area mapped as ice-free in the Atlas is clearly still ice-covered. There is to our knowledge no support for this claim in the published scientific literature.’
Financial Times Admits Gore’s Climate Movement Is Irrevocably Ruined
"Now that the scientific data is getting analysed, people are realising it’s no longer necessary to worry about climate when deciding the direction of energy policy – because coal and other fossil fuels simply don’t have the destructive impact on the climate that was once hypothesized. The data simply doesn’t show it. Indeed while coal consumption globally increased 30% over the last 10 years, global temperatures have actually dropped."

How China has conned Gillard
"..But in China, the locals protest that the solar industry is poisoning them and their land:
In a fresh indication of growing public anger over pollution, hundreds of demonstrators in the eastern Chinese province of Zhejiang on Sunday were camped outside a solar panel manufacturing plant that stands accused of contaminating a nearby river....
The factory is owned by JinkoSolar Holding Company … Some investment analysts described the company last year as a promising upstart in the solar-energy products business....
According to Chinese news reports, residents claimed runoff from solid waste laced with fluoride and improperly stored at the plant had been swept into the nearby river after heavy rainfall on Aug. 26. They said that a sea of dead fish rose to the surface, covering hundreds of square yards of water. Pigs whose sties had been washed with river water also were reported to have died. The state-run China News Agency reported that government inspectors later found that the water contained 10 times the acceptable amount of fluoride."
Wind farm paid £1.2 million to produce no electricity
"The amount is ten times greater than the wind farm's owners would have received had they actually generated any electricity.
The disclosure exposes the bizarre workings of Britain's electricity supply, prompting calls last night for an official investigation into the payments system. The £1.2 million will go to a Norwegian company which owns 60 turbines in the Scottish Borders. The National Grid asked the company, Fred Olsen Renewables, to shut down its Crystal Rig II wind farm last Saturday for a little over eight hours amid fears the electricity network would become overloaded. The problem was caused by high winds buffeting the country in the wake of Hurricane Katia. In total, 11 wind farms were closed down last week, receiving a total of £2.6 million. The money - detailed in calculations provided by National Grid - will be added on to household bills and paid for by consumers. "

Rogue trader in $38.6 billion 'green jobs' fraud
"The fraud appears to have centred around an arcane taxpayer-swindling system first devised by Kenneth Lay of Enron known as "Clean tech" or "green jobs." B.O. – who joined the bank in January 2009 – is believed to have persuaded colleagues and shareholders that he could boost the institution's flagging profits by spending $38.6 billion on a "loan guarantee program" for clean tech start up companies. He also claimed that in the process he would create "65,000 jobs".
Correctly anticipating that in the open market no one would actually want to buy such overpriced, economically inefficient energy as solar or wind, B.O. hit on the ingenious scam of ramping up demand by spreading misleading rumours. He persuaded high-placed friends at institutions including NASA, the EPA and the IPCC to promote junk-science data grotesquely exaggerating the dangers of carbon based energy and the benefits of "renewable" energy. BO then poured sums of up to half a billion dollars into Ponzi schemes – aka Green Tech – run by sympathetic friends."

As if their ugliness isn't bad enough, now it's revealed two thirds of wind farms are foreign-owned
"Two thirds of wind turbines in Britain are owned by foreign companies – netting them millions of pounds in subsidies which are added to household bills.Of the 3,419 turbines, no fewer than 2,276 are either fully or partly-owned by foreign firms. It means that more than half a billion pounds in generous incentives offered by the Government is going overseas every year – at a time when many public services are facing the axe."

Monckton on Paul Nurse’s “anti-science”
"Stamp out anti-science in UK science By Christopher Monckton
....One problem is treating scientific discussion as if it were political debate. When some scientists try to sway public opinion, they employ the tricks of the debating chamber: cherry-picking data, ignoring the consensus opinions of experts (who, in the peer-reviewed economic literature, are near-unanimous that it is cheaper to pay for the damage arising from any global warming that may occur than to spend anything now on attempted mitigation), adept use of a sneer or a misplaced comparison, reliance on the power of rhetoric rather than argument. They can often get away with this because the media rely too much on confrontational debate in place of reasoned discussion."
Wind scam: now we pay for no power
"Not only do we give £1 billion a year in subsidies to the owners of Britain’s 3,500 wind turbines in return for pitiful amounts of electricity, but now we must also pay them, through our bills, to produce no electricity at all. During last weekend’s gales, 13 wind farms were told to switch their turbines off because they were chucking out more power than the grid could safely handle. For this they will receive “constraint” payments potentially worth millions of pounds. In May this year, energy companies paid £2.6 million to shut down Scottish wind farms for the same reason.
So, in the windless days of last winter’s freeze, the turbines contributed almost no power at a time of peak demand; and when the wind does blow, we pay them to contribute nothing. Sir Reginald Sheffield, the Prime Minister’s father-in-law, who earns nearly £1,000 a day from the windfarm on his Lincolnshire estate, is certainly in the right business."

2011 Record Arctic Ice Melt? Not Even Close!
"When it’s the 2nd coldest year of this century, sea levels are dropping and you’re a warmist desperate for headlines, what do you do? You resort to using outlier and obscure data sources – like the warmist University of Bremen – and claim Arctic ice is “dramatically shrinking” and has reached “a record low” (since satellite measurement began 30 years ago).
Too bad all other datasets show the opposite is true."

In a time of serious world problems, wasteful expenditures justified by nonproblems like CO2 make no sense."
Nobel Prize-Winning Physicist Who Endorsed Obama Dissents! Resigns from American Physical Society Over Group's Promotion of Man-Made Global Warming
"Nobel prize winner for physics in 1973 Dr. Ivar Giaever resigned as a Fellow from the American Physical Society (APS) on September 13, 2011 in disgust over the group's promotion of man-made global warming fears. .....Giaever explained in his email to APS: "In the APS it is ok to discuss whether the mass of the proton changes over time and how a multi-universe behaves, but the evidence of global warming is incontrovertible? The claim (how can you measure the average temperature of the whole earth for a whole year?) is that the temperature has changed from ~288.0 to ~288.8 degree Kelvin in about 150 years, which (if true) means to me is that the temperature has been amazingly stable, and both human health and happiness have definitely improved in this 'warming' period."

Al Gore’s Money-Grubbing
"...If saving the world were really Gore’s top priority shouldn’t his video be freely available on YouTube by now? And shouldn’t he be seizing every opportunity to address live audiences – rather than demanding a speaking fee of $170,000?
Here is a link to a 2007 magazine article reporting that Gore’s speaking fee four years ago was indeed $170,000. Here’s a link to a Washington University newspaper article dated today that says his speaking fee is currently $145,000 (backup links here and here).

Winter 2011-2012: More Indications Of A Cold Winter (Due To Global Warming!)
"The good news is that autumn may turn out to be warm and pleasant for Central Europe. The bad news is that there’s a good chance the winter will be cold."
Wind farms: the monuments to lunacy that will be left to blot the landscape
"What this means in plain English is that we can forget any last vestiges of local democracy. Our planning system is to be rigged even more shamelessly than before, to allow pretty well every application to cover our countryside with wind turbines – along with thousands of monster pylons, themselves up to 400 feet high, marching across Scotland, Wales, Suffolk, Somerset and elsewhere to connect them to the grid.
All this is deemed necessary to meet our EU-agreed target to generate nearly a third of our electricity from “renewables” – six times more than we do now – by 2020. This would require building at least 10,000 more turbines, in addition to the 3,500 we already have – which last year supplied only 2.7 per cent of our electricity.
Obviously this is impossible, but our Government will nevertheless do all it can to meet its unreachable target and force through the building of thousands of turbines, capable of producing a derisory amount of electricity at a cost estimated, on its own figures, at £140 billion (equating to £5,600 for every household in the land). Global Warming: A 98% Consensus Of Nothing
"Forgetting for the moment that only shameless activists or the most statistically and scientifically ignorant of persons would claim that a survey sample of only 77 scientists volunteering to participate in a survey is indicative of what the entire climate science community believes, the questions and answers themselves tell us nothing." Let them eat carbon cited in the Lords
"In chapter eight of Let them eat carbon I look at why major developing economies that emit far more greenhouse gases than Britain aren’t going to follow our lead. And at politicians’ farcical attempts to buy their support with our money. One example of that is the Clean Development Mechanism, and earlier this week Lord Reay discussed at that scheme in Parliament, citing the book and saying it “dissects brilliantly most of the ramifications of renewable energy policies.”

Does Cameron Dare Ditch Poor-Bashing Green Energy?
"No 10 has a dilemma: it is committed to an unpopular renewable energy policy that punishes the poor, British industry, and will keep inflation high. But is it edging nervously away from the policy, or merely pretending to?
The Telegraph has obtained a policy document, dated July, that seems to suggest that the government is considering a walk away from the most expensive renewables – and now we can see the full copy online. Solar Climate Change: Piers Corbyn: 65mph Storms to Hit Britain by Nathan Rao: Updated by Piers Corbyn
"PREPARE to be battered by weeks of torrential rains coupled with 65mph gale-force winds that will end the coldest British summer for 20 years. Last night forecasters warned that violent storms and sustained, driving rain will bring a risk of structural damage and flash floods. If that’s not bad enough, they also warned of a big freeze – severe frosts that could hit as early as November, heralding “another cold winter”.
WE PREDICTED THIS 7 MONTHS AHEAD
07.09.11, 7:27pm
We, of WeatherAction, have been warning our subscribers for some time that Britain would be in for serious weather trouble around now and the significant news about these coming few days is we have the simultaneous appearance on our shores of remnants of Hurricane Irene AND 50 million volt proton bursts on the sun which will power up thunderfloods here when solar wind blasts hit earth. It is therefore annoying to have Johnathan Powell of PWS described as FOREcasting these events and making his usual delusional baseless claims about coming months.

Obscure editor resigns from minor journal: why you should care
"The answer, I fear – and the reason why I felt this obscure, involved story was worth writing up – is this: they simply don't care. We have sadly reached that stage in the climate debate where the Alarmist establishment isn't even going to bother trying to make its case through force of argument. And the scary part is that it senses – probably correctly – that it doesn't need to. The junk-science establishment – from the UEA to the Royal Society to NASA GISS to the National Academy of Sciences – has done so well out of its whitewash enquiries, its FOI breaches, its appeals to authority, its craven, unquestioning support from the MSM and the political class, its silencing of critics, that it has lost all sense of shame. It is out of control, unaccountable, yet directly responsible for a large chunk of the costly regulation, taxation and environmentally disastrous schemes from biofuels to wind farms which are helping to destroy the global economy. The great global warming scam is the biggest scandal of our age. It is time someone took it seriously."
The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly: My Initial Comments on the New Dessler 2011 Study
CONCLUSION
"These are my comments and views after having only 1 day since we received the new paper. It will take weeks, at a minimum, to further explore all of the issues raised by Dessler (2011).
Based upon the evidence above, I would say we are indeed going to respond with a journal submission to answer Dessler’s claims. I hope that GRL will offer us as rapid a turnaround as Dessler got in the peer review process. Feel free to take bets on that. :) "
New Paper: Models Continue To Show Too Much Recent Warming
"It turns out, that what the paper really says, is that the amount of global warming that should have occurred over the past 10-15 years (that is, if the climate models were getting things correct) is about 25% greater than the model-expected warming from the combination of increases in greenhouse gases and lower atmospheric pollution alone. Which means that the observed warming during this same time—which has been close to nil—is even harder to explain and makes the models look even worse.
But, of course, that is not at all how the results were spun to the press."

More Thoughts on the War Being Waged Against Us
"It is obvious to many people what is going on behind the scenes. The next IPCC report (AR5) is now in preparation, and there is a bust-gut effort going on to make sure that either (1) no scientific papers get published which could get in the way of the IPCC’s politically-motivated goals, or (2) any critical papers that DO get published are discredited with any and all means available."
Hot off the press: Dessler’s record turnaround time GRL rebuttal paper to Spencer and Braswell
"This paper appears to have been made ready in record time, with a turnaround from submission to acceptance and publication of about six weeks based on the July 26th publication date of the original Spencer and Braswell paper. We should all be so lucky to have expedited peer review service. PeerEx maybe, something like FedEx? Compare that to the two years it took to get Lindzen and Choi out the door. Or how about the WUWT story: “Science has been sitting on his [Spencer's] critique of Dessler’s paper for months”.
If anyone needs a clear, concise, and irrefutable example of how peer review in climate science is biased for the consensus and against skeptics, this is it."

How to go out with a bang — score points for censorship — a poseur for honor!
"An editor has resigned after committing the dastardliest of crimes: He helped publish a skeptical paper in a peer-reviewed journal. God-forbid, imagine a paper being reviewed only by people who have some sympathies with your results? It’s unthinkable."

Journal Deliverance: The True Story of the Climate Hillbillies (WUWT)
"It appears that the reason he was resigning is because he did exactly what he said he would do. Wait, what?
Equally puzzling, is not that peer reviewed science had found SB2011 flawed, but discussion in internet fora. An editor resigned because blogs said his peer-reviewed publication was flawed?"

Environment policy reforms to add £300 to energy bills
"Household energy bills will rise by more than £300 a year as a result of the Coalition’s green policies, a senior Downing Street adviser has told David Cameron. ....Mr Cameron’s senior energy adviser pours scorn on claims by Chris Huhne, the Energy Secretary, that rises in gas and oil prices will be offset by people using less power. A note by the adviser describes his department’s analysis as “unconvincing”. It warns that the Government’s move to increased nuclear power, wind turbines and other measures will add 30 per cent to the average family’s annual energy bill of £1,069 by the end of the decade...The private note, seen by The Daily Telegraph, is titled “Impact of our energy and climate policies on consumer energy bills”. It was sent to Mr Cameron and offers a blunt assessment of how Coalition energy plans, in particular a series of green policies, will affect householders. It concludes: “Over time it is clear that the impact of our policies on consumer bills will become significantly greater.”
Advisers' letter to David Cameron on energy and climate policies
"Letter to David Cameron from advisers Ben Moxham and Gila Sacks on the impact of energy and climate policies on consumer energy bills. .....At present the average household energy bill is £1,059, made up of £591 spent on gas and £468 spent on electricity. .....Four policies stand out as having the most significant impact on household energy bills: carbon pricing (both out own carbon price floor and the EU emissions trading scheme), the new Energy Company Obligation, our Electricity Market Reform package and the Renewables Obligation. The lights may go out in Germany even sooner than in Britain
"Last week, the head of Germany’s national grid warned that supply was in such a parlous state that major power cuts may soon be inevitable. Like Britain’s, Germany’s energy policy has been so skewed by green obsessions that it has built 22,000 wind turbines, more than any other country in the world. Yet they are even more useless than ours – generating at only 15 per cent of their “capacity” (ours managed 21 per cent last year). Even the 6 per cent of the nation’s electricity they supply is so unreliable that the Germans say they must not only keep open several coal-fired power stations – in defiance of an EU anti-pollution directive which is shortly to close six of ours – but that they must build new ones, to burn some of the world’s “dirtiest” coal. Green jobs? Wot green jobs? (pt 242)
"The Global Warming Policy Foundation has published a report into the future of “Green Jobs” in Britain. It is damning indeed. Though it doesn’t actually say as much – the GWPF is too austere and restrained for such flippancies – this Government’s green policies are the equivalent of trying to pay off the national debt by breeding unicorns to sell to Chinese millionaires.
Among the conclusions of The Myth of Green Jobs by Gordon Hughes, Professor of Economics at Edinburgh University, are: ........"

Newsbytes: Green crash and burn accelerating
"Organizers of the London 2012 Olympic Games dropped a plan to cut carbon emissions during the sporting showcase, abandoning a pledge made when it defeated eight other cities to host the event. Games administrators will “no longer pursue formal offsetting procedures” to mitigate Olympics-related emissions, documents posted on the London Olympics website said. – "

"Call it a green embarassment of spectacular dimensions. Don’t expect national media coverage here.
Despite all the massive subsidies, incentives and bureaucratic favors, which were supposed to guarantee the venture’s long-term success, Fremont California-based solar cell manufacturer Solyndra still went bankrupt, read here."
