"Carbon (Dioxide) trading is now the fastest growing commodities market on earth.....And here’s the great thing about it. Unlike traditional commodities markets, which will eventually involve delivery to someone in physical form, the carbon (dioxide) market is based on lack of delivery of an invisible substance to no-one. Since the market revolves around creating carbon (dioxide) credits, or finding carbon (dioxide) reduction projects whose benefits can then be sold to those with a surplus of emissions, it is entirely intangible." (Telegraph)
This blog has been tracking the 'Global Warming Scam' for over ten years now. There are a very large number of articles being published in blogs and more in the MSM who are waking up to the fact the public refuse to be conned any more and are objecting to the 'green madness' of governments and the artificially high price of energy. This blog will now be concentrating on the major stories as we move to the pragmatic view of 'not if, but when' and how the situation is managed back to reality. To quote Professor Lindzen, "a lot of people are going to look pretty silly"

The World’s Slowest Learners
".. In July 1997, five months prior to the fanfare in Kyoto, the US Senate had already passed the Byrd-Hagel resolution. The vote was 95-0. Let me repeat: the vote was unanimous. It was bi-partisan. This resolution made it clear that not a single Democrat or Republican senator was prepared to support an emissions agreement that would harm the US economy while ignoring the growing emissions of up-and-coming economies such as China and India (see here, here, and here).
Had US senators all danced naked on the dome of the Capitol Building while blaring the news through trumpets they could not have sent a clearer message that the Kyoto approach was a no-go.
That was 14 years ago.
So how have UN bureaucrats spent the past decade-and-a-half? According to these same people, climate change is a planetary emergency and time is running out. So did they abandon the idea of a global emissions treaty and pursue a Plan B? Did they move heaven and earth to find an approach that would be acceptable to US senators and would therefore enlist the participation of the world’s largest economy?
Uh, no. Instead, UN bureaucrats (and their close friends in the environmental movement) have spent the past 14 years pretending – against all evidence – that a Kyoto-style treaty was somehow achievable. Thousands of them have flown off to exotic locales at regular intervals to hold climate summit after climate summit. Again and again they’ve pretended for the TV cameras that reaching such an agreement was a realistic expectation.
What, exactly, have these people been smoking?
Or, to use a phrase from my undergraduate days in women’s studies – Which part of ‘no’ did they not understand?"

Moronic UK Green Power Policies.
"An analysis by the UK Dept of Energy and Climate Change should have men in white coats dispatched to Whitehall because their policies are looney tunes by any rational standards. The analysis says £5,000 a year per person needs to be spent up to 2050 to combat rampart global temperature increases as shown. The fact that the Guardian has treated this as a serious item without ridicule shows how far out of their trees their journalists actually are."

How DECC fiddled its figures
"Tim Worstall has picked up on the DECC energy pathways report and notes something intriguing: although the costs of the individual elements of the energy mix in the new regime are acknowledged to be higher than at present, the overall cost is said to be lower! But Timmy has managed to work out how this particular piece of government mathematics works:"

Feedback about feedbacks and suchlike fooleries
"A true-believer at the recent Los Alamos quinquennial climate conference at Santa Fe asked me, in a horrified voice, whether I was really willing to allow our grandchildren to pay for the consequences of our folly in emitting so much CO2. Since the warming we shall cause will be small and may well prove to be beneficial, one hopes future generations will be grateful to us.
Besides, as President Klaus of the Czech Republic has wisely pointed out, if we damage our grandchildren’s inheritance by blowing it on useless windmills, mercury-filled light-bulbs, solar panels, and a gallimaufry of suchlike costly, wasteful, environment-destroying fashion statements, our heirs will certainly not thank us."
2011 is UK's second warmest year on record - Met Office, BBC News: Updated with comments

See also, the graph that shows this issue A Graph to Debunk AGW - the less surface stations the more temperature increase!...GR"
Really.....according to the Met Office, 2011 was the second hottest year on record

£10m cost of turning off wind farms
"Official figures disclosed that 17 operators were paid almost £7 million for shutting down their farms on almost 40 occasions between January and mid-September. Continuing to make payments at that rate would lead to householders paying out £9.9 million in 2011 for operators to disconnect their turbines from the National Grid. ....“Onshore wind generation requires a 100 per cent back-up of carbon-burning technology or nuclear energy, should the wind not blow, and in addition to the devastation of the visual environment there are the problems of noise and flicker. They are the wrong renewables choice.”

Shutting down power plants: Imaginary benefits, extensive harm
"Simply put, EPA grossly exaggerated the health benefits of its proposed mercury rules – and then claimed additional mercury benefits based on double counting of reductions in particulate matter. It also ignored the adverse effects that its rules will inflict. Not only is EPA’s anti-mercury campaign scaring mothers and children into not eating nutritious fish that is rich in Omega-3 fatty acids. It is also raising electricity heating, air conditioning and food costs, impairing electrical reliability, costing jobs, and thereby harming the health and welfare of countless Americans."

Now Brussels clobbers British holidaymakers with a green tax on flights: Family of four forced to pay £80 more to fly to America
"From January 1, all airlines will be required to buy a ‘permit to pollute’ to cover the cost of their carbon emissions plus extra costs if they exceed their emissions limit. The court yesterday rejected a challenge from the U.S. and other non-EU nations that the levy infringes their national sovereignty and violates international aviation treaties. The cost will almost inevitably be passed on to passengers, and the EU calculates the cost will be £10.50 on a one-way transatlantic flight – or £21 return. For many shorter flights it will be up to £1.75 each way."

More bad news for the anti-energy, green greed brigade
"..In Germany, especially, the attrition rate has been amazing. According to Reuters, no fewer than 5,000 German solar companies have gone bust in the last year, shedding around 20,000 jobs. .......Let me explain, once more for their benefit, in very simple language why I have a problem with the man-made global warming industry: on the basis of little hard scientific evidence (only computer projections), trillions of pounds, dollars and euros are being pumped into projects which make energy needlessly more expensive, cause tremendous environmental damage, slow down economic growth, stifle liberty and destroy jobs."

A Curiousity In Australia (E.M. Smith)
"So there was / is a cold summer in Australia (especially up around Brisbane). When you look at a map of Australia, Brisbane is just about in the middle of the country on the coast on the right (east) side. What’s a bit curious, is that while the locals are saying it is Way Cold, GIStemp is just not seeing it. In fact, even looking back into the PAST cold, it isn’t there. It is as though the extremes are simply erased. (I’ve suspected this from what we’ve seen in the “QA Process” where stations must be ‘close enough’ to nearby airports or their data are rejected). "

Global Warming and Walnut Trees: a Case Study in Deception
"It is not difficult to understand why people and institutions exaggerate the potential dangers of global warming and omit any mention of the probable benefits. Radical environmentalism, not Wall Street, sabotaging the American Dream
"What if, the voiceover asks, everything ran on gas?...This beautiful lie, however, is sullied by the ugly fact that, in reality, almost everything does. Americans obtain about 86 percent of our power from gas- and coal-fired sources. This means that the Leaf’s lithium batteries are ultimately charged by fossil fuel, or another form of non-renewable energy, nuclear fission. It also means that electric vehicle owners’ claim to green chest-thumping rights is really so much smoke up a distant stack."

Post COP 17 – The Road to Nowhere
"Returning to the real world, I firmly believe that there are few if any scientists in southern Africa who have a wider, longer, and more scientific experience in the interfaces between the climatological, hydrological, environmental and sociological sciences than I have.
Equally, I believe that this whole global warming/climate change issue is no more than a monumental scam perpetrated by the affluent nations to protect their economic supremacy, regardless of the effects on the many millions of poor and disadvantaged populations of Africa and elsewhere.
I do not for one moment believe that the nations of the world will abide by the nebulous decisions reached by COP17 in Durban, with legal ratification by 2015, and implementation by 2020. It is not going to happen."
The BBC's myth-makers serve up a double helping of propaganda
"There was much excitement over the revelation that David Attenborough’s Frozen Planet had “faked” a scene where polar bear cubs, actually born in a Dutch zoo, seemed to be in Arctic wilderness. Yet no interest at all was aroused by a much more serious misrepresentation – of the speed at which ice is melting at the poles.
I was criticised for pointing this out last week, but as anyone can see, from satellite-based charts on the Cryosphere Today website, the extent of polar sea ice was last year 1.6 million square kilometres greater than its average over the last 30 years – something which could never have been guessed from Attenborough’s dramatic film sequences, carefully chosen to convey the very different message the BBC wanted us to believe."

Climategate Bombshell: Did U.S. Gov't Help Hide Climate Data?
"Are your tax dollars helping hide global warming data from the public? Internal emails leaked as part of “Climategate 2.0” indicate the answer may be "Yes."
The original Climategate emails -- correspondence stolen from servers at a research facility in the U.K. and released on the Internet in late 2009 -- shook up the field of climate research. Now a new batch posted in late November to a Russian server shows that scientists at the University of East Anglia’s Climatic Research Unit refused to share their U.S. government-funded data with anyone they thought would disagree with them." Norfolk Vice
"Suddenly, as if by magic, Norfolk Constabulary, asleep atop their haystacks, have been transformed into something out of Miami Vice. Tallbloke reports:
An Englishman’s home is his castle they say. Not when six detectives from the Metropolitan Police, the Norfolk Constabulary and the Computer Crime division arrive on your doorstep with a warrant to search it though.
I waved the first three in and bid them head through to the sitting room, where there was less of an chill near the woodburner. Then they kept coming, being introduced by the lead detective from Norfolk as they trooped in. I thought I’d been chosen to host the secret policemen’s ball or something."
Electricity bills to rocket by 25% because of 'green' targets, says Government
"The study concluded that electricity prices are likely to rise by 41 per cent by 2020 in real terms – with more than half the increase a result of switching to ‘low carbon’ energy sources. In total, ‘green’ measures will add 23.8 per cent to the price of electricity. The impact on families will vary according to consumption, but the report found that those whose homes are heated by electricity could see their annual bills rise by more than £400. The analysis also suggests that a new ‘carbon price floor’ – introduced on the pretext of cutting carbon emissions – will effectively act as a tax, raising £3billion a year for the Treasury from electricity consumers by 2020. The CCC’s report suggests that people whose homes are heated by electricity will see their average bills rise from about £1,500 to £2,100 in 2020."

UK police seize computers of skeptic blogger in England
"The first blogger to break the Climategate2 story has had a visit from the police and has had his computers seized. Tallbloke’s Talkshop first reported on CG2 due to the timing of the release being overnight in the USA. Today he was raided by six UK police (Norfolk Constabulary and Metropolitan police) and several of his computers were seized as evidence. ......Strange and troubling that they’d seize his computers for comments dropped onto a US service (wordpress.com) from the cloud. There wouldn’t be any record on his PC’s of the event from FOIA’s placing comments, that would be in the wordpress.com server logs.
Either there’s more than meets the eye or they have no idea how the blog system works."

Durban Agreement In Doubt Over Faltering Kyoto Protocol
"The decision of Canada to exercise its legal right to withdraw from the protocol has dealt a blow to the spirit of the Durban deal. For long, industrialised countries have been seeking abandonment of the protocol. The US, of course, never signed this agreement. Now another major carbon emitter is out of it. Russia and Japan too have opposed any extension of commitments. All this may render the protocol a dead instrument. ........The decision to withdraw from Kyoto, Kent said, would save Canada $ 14 billion in penalties for not achieving its Kyoto targets. "To meet the targets under Kyoto for 2012 would be the equivalent of either removing every car, truck, ATV, tractor, ambulance, police car and vehicle of every kind from Canadian roads or closing down the entire farming and agriculture sector and cutting heat to every home, office, hospital, factory and building in Canada," Kent said. He said he would not be surprised if other countries follow Canada in pulling out of Kyoto.

The great climate change gravy train rolls on
"Success! Simply put, they ensured that the great climate gravy train would NOT come to a shuddering stop in Durban. It was given a new head of steam to roll on to Qatar next year and who knows where else right through to at least 2015. They've done themselves and their peer group proud. It's perhaps not well understood just how many billions of dollars and how many probably hundreds of thousands of main-chancers ride that gravy train. It's not just the billions of dollars that have been rescued for the ten thousand-plus people that most prominently ride the climate gravy train from one conference to the next. But in the finest example of real trickle-down in action, all the people who feed off the climate hysteria and inanity beneath them. ......Durban was not so much an exercise in re-arranging the chairs on the Titanic. But ensuring the whisky, champagne and caviar continues to flow for those with a seat on the (very, very long) climate gravy train."
Dressing up Durban
"A conference that resolves only to decide in four years time what to do in nine years seems a very strange “breakthough”."
Canada pulls out of Kyoto pact
"Canada's Environment Minister says his country is pulling out of the Kyoto Protocol on climate change. Peter Kent said that Canada was invoking its legal right to withdraw and said Kyoto did not represent the way forward for Canada or the world. Canada, joined by Japan and Russia, said last year it would not accept new Kyoto commitments, but renouncing the accord is another setback to the treaty concluded with much fanfare in 1997. No nation has formally renounced the protocol until now."
The Wind Power Pipe Dream
"Unknown to most Americans is the fact that wind power generation requires 100% backup. To maintain electrical grid capacity, the ability to supply customer demand for continuous electricity, every wind farm must have a backup generating facility. Thus, it is coal-fired, gas-powered, nuclear and hydroelectric power generation that ensures a reliable supply of electricity to consumers.
This means that the backup facility must have twice the real rated capacity of the wind farm. The result is more capital is required to ensure this, along with operating and maintenance costs when a traditional power company is forced to include wind power in its inventory. This is a global phenomenon wherever wind power is part of the mix."
Climate scientists: not evil, maybe a bit stupid, definitely in a world all of their own
"The Durban climate conference has been an abject failure. But that hasn't stopped those who were there desperately trying – with all the plausibility of Monty Python's Black Knight – to spin their disaster as though it represents some kind of massive triumph. Among them is a man named Michael Jacobs, formerly climate adviser to Gordon Brown.
In his Guardian column today, Jacobs argues that "the conference that has ended in Durban, South Africa, amid considerable drama, should be regarded as very much a success."
I disagree. And today we met on Sky News to discuss it."
Durban failed: Relax, everyone , Only agreement is to keep going to conferences
"Meanwhile the Green Climate Fund is supposed to find €100bn of cash donations a year to send to developing countries each year by 2020. One wit described this as a plan "to shift wealth from the first world’s poor to the third world’s rich without making any difference in climate control". With developed economies crucified by private and sovereign debt, and the credit system even worse, this was never likely to happen - and Durban didn't see any commitments from anybody to finance the fund."

The BASIC Truth About Durban
"The basic truth about Durban, the latest and 17th Feydeau farce passing as serious UN climate talks, is simple: the BASIC countries - Brazil, South Africa, India, and China - played a blinder. They outwitted comprehensively the ever-zealous, naive, and hypocritical EU to ensure that they achieved their fundamental goals, which were to delay any agreement on a replacement for the failing Kyoto Protocol until at least 2015, and any actual action to cut emissions until at least 2020."

The Durban Bible: you pay so they may pray
"This is freaky - and it sure isn’t science. The planet savers at the IPCC summit in Durban - attended by Climate Change Minister Greg Combet - are working on a document that reads in part like the Bible of a new green faith:
Rights of mother earth
74. Ensure respect for the intrinsic laws of nature.
75. The recognition and defence of the rights of Mother Earth to ensure harmony
between humanity and nature, and that their will be no commodification of the functions of
nature, therefore no carbon market will be developed with that purpose.
Who is “Mother Earth”? What are the “intrinsic laws of nature” and who passed them? Why do they need “respect”? What is the “harmony” between “humanity and nature”? Discuss using, say, smallpox as an example. Define “commodification of the functions of nature”. Explain using the example of dams and farms.
And tell us who wrote this garbage and how they go through the door.
Lord Christopher Monckton reads through the rest. Here’s his summary, in an important article that should be read in full: "
BBC puts the best spin on the failure of the Durban Conference!
"Richard Black the BBC Warmist spinmeister is having awful trouble convincing readers that the Durban Climate hug-fest accomplished anything which of course it didn't"
Green Robbery
"Among the modest achievements of the conference, which was nearing an end on Saturday, was progress toward the creation of a Green Climate Fund, which is to help mobilize a promised $100 billion a year in public and private funds by 2020 to assist developing nations in adapting to climate change and converting to clean energy sources."

'Frozen Planet' gave us beautiful images, but an unbalanced picture
"In each case, however, he arranged his evidence in a notably loaded way, carefully omitting much of the information a less selective picture would have included. Like so many before him, his sequence on Antarctica – with 90 per cent of the ice on the planet – focused almost entirely on the Antarctic Peninsula, the one small part of that continent where ice is significantly melting – not because of atmospheric warming, but because a shift in ocean currents has brought in a flood of warmer water. Not mentioned, of course, was that most of Antarctica has if anything got colder in the past 50 years, its growth in sea ice counterbalancing the modest shrinkage of ice in the Arctic.
This too has probably been caused not by rising global temperatures, but by changing wind patterns, and warmer water coming in from the Pacific. Great play has been made of the new ability of ships to sail through ice-free Arctic waters. But ships were sailing freely along the northern coast of Russia 70 years ago. Meanwhile, winter ice further south, in the Sea of Okhotsk and the Baltic has increased markedly in recent years."
Huhne fights for climate deal that will cost UK taxpayers £6bn
"As well as a deal which Mr Huhne admitted ‘may go pear-shaped’, world leaders are expected to outline the details of a £64bn package to help the developing world cope with climate change. The Green Climate Fund is set to cost Britain £1billion a year, or £6billion by 2020, to fund solar panels, flood defences and technology. It was agreed two years ago, but talks this year have focused on how it will be funded, as countries grapple with low growth and cuts."

Dissent on global warming has been shut down from the start
"The odd thing about the great debate on global warming is that there never really was a debate. As soon as the global warming scare exploded on the world in 1988, to its promoters there could be no argument about it. The scientists who that year set up the UN’s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) were already convinced beyond doubt that ‘human-induced climate change’ was a reality. Al Gore was soon already pronouncing ‘the science is settled’. In 1992 Dr Richard Lindzen of MIT, the eminent atmospheric physicist who has been a prominent ‘sceptic’ ever since, wrote a paper discussing the peculiar need of the ‘climate establishment’ to insist that their new orthodoxy was supported by a ‘consensus’ of the world’s scientists, despite abundant evidence to the contrary.
A corollary of this, as Lindzen showed, was the extraordinary intolerance they displayed towards anyone questioning the orthodoxy. When one respected professor of economics told a US Senate Committee that the issue was still ‘controversial’, Senator Gore expostulated that anyone who said such a thing clearly didn’t know what he was talking about, and the professor was asked to leave the room.
Thus, right from the start, this remarkable hostility towards anyone daring to question the orthodoxy became established as a central feature of the story, ..."

In China, there are no hockey sticks
"Chinese 2485 year tree ring study shows shows sun or ocean controls climate, temps will cool til 2068"
----------------------
A blockbuster Chinese study of Tibetan tree rings by Lui et al 2011 shows, with detail, that the modern era is a dog-standard normal climate when compared to the last 2,500 years. The temperature, the rate of change — it’s all been seen before. Nothing about the current period is “abnormal”, indeed the current warming period in Tibet can be produced through calculation of cycles. Lui et al do a Fourier analysis on the underlying cycles and do brave predictions as well. (JoNova)
The BBC and an inconvenient truth about climate change: A devastating report lays bare the BBC's endemic bias on global warming
"Tony Blair was putting global warming at the top of his government’s agenda. The UN’s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (the IPCC) was producing its scariest report to date. By making its coverage so flagrantly one-sided on the environment issue, it has betrayed its statutory duty to report on world events impartially. By making its coverage so flagrantly one-sided on the environment issue, it has betrayed its statutory duty to report on world events impartially
At a secret ‘high-level seminar’ in January 2006, 30 of the BBC’s most senior staff listened as a former president of the Royal Society, Lord May, told them that ‘the scientific debate over climate change’ was over, and that the BBC must ‘stop reporting the sceptics’.
As a result, the BBC adopted a new editorial policy line, throwing any obligation to impartiality to the winds. The BBC’s journalists and producers were let off the leash — to line up with the more extreme environmental pressure groups, such as Greenpeace, the World Wildlife Fund and Friends of the Earth, in pushing their global warming agenda for all it was worth.
This bias was soon evident across the whole of the BBC’s output. Not just in the news and current affairs coverage, but from children’s programmes such as Blue Peter —which titled one show Green Peter, with top tips to save the planet — to story-lines in The Archers, one of which involved a farmer planting trees to combat climate change."

At Climate Talks, a Familiar Standoff Emerges Between the U.S. and China
"Mr. Xie outlined five conditions under which China would consider joining such a treaty as a full partner, the major one being that China and other rapidly growing economies must be treated differently from the so-called rich countries. But that has been a deal-breaker for the United States for years and is the central reason that the Senate refused to even consider ratifying the Kyoto Protocol, a 1997 agreement whose goal, still unmet, is to limit global greenhouse gas emissions.
“These conditions are not new,” Mr. Xie acknowledged at a briefing at the conference center here where more than 190 nations are gathered for the 17th annual conference of parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change. “These have been negotiated for past 20 years."

Wheels of the global warming gravy train are oiled
"The warming may have stopped a decade ago, but nothing will stop this government from spending on its warming faith:
AUSTRALIA has fast tracked money to help African countries adapt to climate change, the federal government announced at climate talks in Durban.
Climate Change Minister Greg Combet.... announced $25 million towards helping African nations manage water resources, boost food security and climate-proof agriculture.
Meanwhile, scepticism about this massive gravy train is fast rising in Britain:
The British Social Attitudes survey shows that in 2000 43% of the population would pay “much higher prices” for “the sake of the environment”. Last summer support fell to just 26%, with the poorest sections of society most reluctant to save the planet with their cash.
Over the same period the public has become much more sceptical about the science behind climate change. In 2010 37% said many claims about environmental threats were “exaggerated”, up from 24% in 2000.
And the heat has gone out of the alarmism here, too:
BRISBANE residents yesterday shivered through the city’s coldest December day in 123 years, while Sydney has recorded its iciest start to summer in 51 years…
Perth recorded its wettest December day in 28 years on Tuesday."

If global warming takes off, you won’t be blown away
"Leading hurricane expert Christopher Landsea, who does not doubt man warms the world, has an excellent presentation, at the end of which he concludes:
My interpretation of the climate change research suggests the following - assuming that there is a significant 2-3°C (4-6°F) global warming due to business-as-usual emissions (which is not a guarantee):
Overall Tropical Storm and Hurricane Changes Due to Global Warming by 2100
Frequency: Numbers may see a moderate decrease (~25%)
Wind (Intensity): Small increase (~3% stronger)
Storm Surge: Small increase (~3% higher) produced by the hurricane (but also must add on additional amount from overall sea level rise)
Rainfall: Moderate increase per cyclone (~10% within ~325 km [200 mi]), but reduced overall numbers may offset increase per cyclone
Genesis Location/Track: Somewhat uncertain, but no indications of large changes
These overall changes that may occur are relatively tiny and are several decades away, in my opinion. These conclusions are similar, though slightly smaller, than those indicated by a review panel of the topic of hurricanes and global warming that was recently published in Nature Geophysics in which I participated. "
The Unholy Trinity of Stupidity!
"Following the failure of a meaningful Durban agreement and in an effort to save face Australia, New Zealand and the EU have formalised negotiations for swapping paper carbon credits although I understand the mafia will have to ratify any EU decision given the amount of the market they control."
Climategate 2.0: junk science 101 with Michael Mann
"Has Mann actually read any of the Climategate and Climategate 2.0 emails, I wonder? A lot of them have his name on them, so he must have done at one time or another. But perhaps with all that data-fudging and decline-hiding his brain has been overtaxed of late. So let us gently jog his memory with some examples."

Chinese Deal Breakers
"Mr. Xie has come to Durban in part to lay out the conditions that would have to be met before China would sign on to any new “Son of Kyoto” treaty. Fortunately for the world, their conditions are stringent. ......, there is little chance that the worlds’ industrialized countries will agree to pony up a hundred billion a year and hand it to poor countries. Most countries are having a hard time staying afloat right now. In addition the EU is not all that thrilled about the plan. The last bunch of money that the EU handed over to the poor countries under the CDM (Clean Development Mechanism) was mostly lost in a cesspool of graft and corruption."

Chinese want to lure the EU into continuing Kyoto by making vague promises.
“If all the conditions are met, we’re open to the process,” Xie told a briefing today. “For the new framework after 2020, we must continue the Kyoto Protocol, there must be a second commitment period. If there’s no second commitment period it’s not meaningful for us to talk about new framework. This is the first condition.”
.....China and other developing nations made non-binding pledges to reduce emissions at the UN talks in Cancun last year, where developed nations also made pledges that are voluntary. Su said it’s too early to say whether China would accept legally binding commitments after 2020."

The contextual collection of ClimateGate 2.0 quotes
"Jeff suggested I repost this collection of quotes in the words of climate scientists as discovered in Climategate 2.0 context. He’s done a great job at collecting the relevant context."

No, global warming isn’t drowning us in rising seas
"Nils-Axel Morner on “Sealevelgate” - the hypeing of claims that the seas are rising dangerously: .......Satellite altimetry is a wonderful and vital new technique that offers the reconstruction of sea level changes all over the ocean surface. But it has been hijacked and distorted by the IPCC for political ends.
In 2003 the satellite altimetry record was mysteriously tilted upwards to imply a sudden sea level rise rate of 2.3mm per year. When I criticised this dishonest adjustment at a global warming conference in Moscow, a British member of the IPCC delegation admitted in public the reason for this new calibration: ‘We had to do so, otherwise there would be no trend.’
This is a scandal that should be called Sealevelgate. As with the Hockey Stick, there is little real-world data to support the upward tilt."
Climategate 2.0: A Sequel As Ugly As The Original.
"No amount of context can possibly exonerate the CRU gang from some of the damning expressions and contrivances that appear repeatedly in the new emails. More so than the 2009 batch, these emails make clear the close collaboration between the leading IPCC scientists and environmental advocacy groups, government agencies, and partisan journalists."
The EU dream and Kyoto will expire together
"As we know, the planet was not saved at Copenhagen. The largest conference the world has ever seen ended in acrimony, without establishing a successor to the Kyoto Protocol – a new treaty that would have landed humanity with the biggest bill in history, by far. Last year, an attempt to revive it, in Cancun, ended in further dismal failure. Now a third UN conference, taking place in Durban, looks even more forlorn, and any hope of a successor to Kyoto is slipping towards oblivion."

Climategate And The Self-Destruction Of Science
"Governments around the world have spent billions on policies to counteract the impact of global warming. They have done so because policy-makers, politicians and the public have been told that the science is built on bedrock. But some of that bedrock turns out to be sand.
Instead of distancing themselves from the shenanigans, the broader climate-science community has treated the central figures in Climategate like persecuted heroes. That is a terrible mistake, because it erodes the credibility of the entire field. The suppression of legitimate debate is a catastrophe for climate science. It’s also a catastrophe for science, period."
Are government warmists censoring the data?
"Allegations that sea level data is being censored by NSW Government climate change bureaucrats because they show the seas not rising as fast as predicted. "

Doomsday predictions on sea level rises are 'false alarm' - levels always fluctuate, says expert as climate change row heats up
#Satellite data 'tilted to distort figures'
#Historical data suggests sea rises and fall naturally
#UN 'expert' admits 'We had to adjust data, otherwise there would be no new trend'
#Climate expert describes sea levels as 'artificial crisis'
Climategate 2:0: Hide the dissent
"We now know that this Yamal work was a botch job - cherrypicking a few tree ring samples in Siberia to produce “evidence” of unprecedented warming, as used by Michael Mann in his notorious “hockey stick”.
Here’s how the team of warmist scientists most behind the global warming scare responded on their influential blog:"
More Met Office Spin About Annual Temperatures (In Time for Durban)
"Once again, for political reasons, the Met Office is “jumping the gun” and drawing conclusions about the global annual temperature of 2011 before all the data has come in. It is also erroneously saying that even with a globally cooling La Nina event 2011 is a record year."
Green cons ...
"Just in time for Durban – new green technology promises big fuel savings, lower emissions" ED:It's a satire
.....It's honestly shameful that amazon sell this kind of product! I hope nobody is fooled by this kind of thing, but you're unsure, just think: If it was this easy to make such huge savings in fuel consumption, why would a manufacturer not fit it as standard?! Easy, it's all lies! (Amazon, customer review)
Hide-the-Decline Plus
"At the time, no one knew about “hide the decline”. Mann et al do not mention anything about deleting adverse data. The Briffa reconstruction labeled in the legend as “Briffa et al scaled 1856-1980″, giving no clue to readers of hide-the-decline. Let’s now look at a magnified version of this graphic, blown up so that we can see how they handled the Briffa (orange) reconstruction. As sharp-eyed CA readers observed, if you squint closely, you can see that the Briffa reconstruction was chopped off before its end.
Indeed, they did not simply “hide the decline”, their “hide the decline” was worse than we thought. Mann et al did not merely delete data after 1960, they deleted data from 1940 on, You can see the last point of the Briffa reconstruction (located at ~1940) peeking from behind the spaghetti in the graphic below:"
